Thread: A smuggler's dream...
So, I guess all those A's, B's, X's, and Y's jumping from some abandoned section of Deep Space all the way to Endor in Return of the Jedi where actually just sort of, what? Carried along by the larger ships Hyperdrives? Or, Luke's X-Wing jumping across the spaces from Hoth to Dagobah, from Dagobah to Bespin, hmm? I suppose he just sort of 'used the force' to jump there?
The subject of Hyperdrive physics was handled in the EU.
The actual act of travelling in Hyperspace requires little fuel, on it's own. A ship in Hyperspace can travel for quite some time, running only on Reactor energy. Generating the energy to sustain hyperspace requires considerably less fuel thanmovement andmaneuvering thrusters. The speed at which the ship travels in Hyperspace, it's direction, and such, are determined by the speed and direction the ship is travelling in 'normal space' before it jumps. Thus, an X-Wing with little or no fuel cannot jump to hyperspace effectively, because they cannot move/maneuver to get a decent exit vector for hyperspace, and then could not generate the energy needed to sustain hyperspace.
Smaller ships (JSF, Z-95) do not have powerful enough reactors to sustain the Hyperdrive without ridiculous amounts of fuel. The original JSF (Not the Actis) required a special docked ring to surround the ship in a 'hyperspace bubble'.
The Empire, in an attempt to keep it's pilot's from defecting or rebelling, and as a way to lighten, speed up, and lower production costs, by removing both Shields and Hyperdrive's from their vessels. Hence, it is FEASABLE that a properly-modified TIE may be able to jump to hyperspace
Just my two cents

Nothing wrong with nerdy girls. Heck, we all must be a little nerdy if we're here, right?
Besides, some nerdy girls can be "teh hawtness"... right, Veela? ![]()

If you are gonna be nerdy, best thing to be is a girl, as there are far too many nerdy guys in this place.
