It is a long an sortid history. I truly believe if it had been up to the devs posting the Smuggler Revamp would have happened long ago. It is not them making decisions about dev time its the producer, he and he alone has the power to say "Go".
I like Smuggler, its the profession Ive stuck with the longest but now its time for me to leave it. I will come back when/if the revamp is done but for now Im tired of waiting. After careful consideration Ive come to the conclusion that the only skills from Smuggler that I actually use are Slicing and FD. I figure, thats an awful lot of tied up SP for something that works well but randomly and something I use only very occasionally.
I wish all of my Smuggler brethren luck, you are a group with an inordinate amount of patience.

Yeah, to confirm (trying to remember where I saw this): Garva has said that they will be dealing more with bumps/bumpers, except in the trade forums, where they kinda let you do it for obvious reasons(and only as long as it is not abused there).

I am just checking, but didn't they say green marine was working over on the Combat Upgrade thingy now, not the Revamp?

As a pistoleer on my main character, I've had my share of dealing with a broken profession, but the whole smuggler debacle really takes the cake. It's hard to believe how old some of those comments are, and it still just keeps going and going. It's not surprising that they're being much more tight-lipped about the information leaked to the boards now. There's some serious 'shooting themselves in the feet' going on in some of those cited posts.
I can't even imagine how frustrating this must be for you smuggler-folk. In the long run, I have to agree with those that have said 'money talks'. In the end, corporations only understand one thing: revenue.

I picked Master Smuggler for one toon, and Master Pistoleer for the other. LOL! What luck, eh? But I will say, of the two, Smuggler is by far the worse off. I spend a lot of time reading the other forums, too (all professions) and I just have to say: of all the professions, the relationship between SOE and Smuggler is THE most dysfunctional. If you look back on all the communications (and LACK thereof at the most important times) you can see a seriously twisted (from a psychological perspective) pattern in SOE's exchanges with the folks who chose to be smugglers.
We chose this profession based on the hype on the packaging and advertising (Han Solo!! He was a SMUGGLER! Iconic profession of Star Wars!), and following that, the many promises made.
Many of us believed those promises and continued to pay our $15 a month based on those promises. All you have to do is read the historical posts in this thread to understand how this happened.
It has been a year and a half. LOL. OMG. Amazing. And here we sit -- really, the only changes to our profession have been in the form of nerfs and as I have stated in previous posts, one of those TO THIS DAY remains uncommented on and unexplained despite our polite requests for explanation and definition.
Information is power; in this instance, SOE has kept the information regarding that serious nerf to one of our ways of making a living (the nerf to the spice downer, which effectively ENDED the spice market) a SECRET.
LOL! God, when you think about it -- what is the point of that? I just do not get it.
And now, despite our protests during the JTL Beta, any Tom, D!ck or Harry (or Tina, Dianne and Hermione) can be in the "Smuggler's Alliance" in Space -- I am laughing again... lol! Yes, it is just a WORD -- "Smuggler" -- but maybe that is the problem here. SOE thinks "smuggle,""smuggling" and "smuggler" are just words... And you'd think, after all this time, they would RECOGNIZE this would be a hot button! Smugglers DO NOT SMUGGLE!
Argh! LOL!
Bottom line: Had we had the ability to make an INFORMED DECISION regarding our choice of profession, we would have NO room for complaint. But this was NOT the case. We made decisions based on what they told us. We chose to believe what they represented to us (when they chose to actually communicate with us).
Yeah, it's just a game.
It's also at LEAST $15 X 18 (months). And an investment of precious time and emotion. Whenever someone tells me "Just quit then! They understand money!" I want to smack 'em! lol -- it is SO much more than that to most of us. It is an investment that is hard to measure.
Well anyway -- the objectivist in me is considering writing this one up for the psychology mags, etc. -- as I have said in other posts -- it is a fascinating study. Truly.

soe just follows the golden rule of beaurocracy:
Each individual gets promoted until they reach their ultimate level of incompetence and then remain there.
In this case, whoever is in charge of design and development of the proffessions. Having SWG on his resume must be hurting this guy/gal by now.
