I haven't seen any constructive comments here yet, so how about I add one:

I'd like to see the addition of a "Secure Smuggling Transaction" similar to that of the secure trading system.

Key benefits include:

  1. Less thefts by smugglers.

  2. Engenders more trust to smugglers allowing them to have more clients without a lot of work.

It shouldn't be hard to implement as the secure trading system already exists and has almost all of the features required to implement a secure smuggling transaction.

How about this. The Heavy Blaster plain sucks, nobody uses it. And for it being Han Solos weapon of choice and being outlawed on several planets I think it should be boosted. Its obviously a smuggler weapon in the movie so why not in the game? Boost its damage up significantly and maybe have it do a little extra something. Eithier have it that only Smugglers get the cert for it or only smugglers can get away with using/transporting it. I think if the Heavy Blaster was a specialty smuggler weapon it would give smugglers a little more uniqueness and even hold truer to the Star Wars feel.No more FWG5 clones walking everywhere, now if you want to mess with a smuggler you have to deal with him and his Heavy Blaster.

Another idea is for the smuggling itself. I figure that each planet has its own legals and illegals. For example say onone planeta certain spice is legal, you can craft it and travel anywhere you please as long as you stay on the planet where its legal. Only smugglers can successfully bring it to other planets. For this kinda system to work there would have to be a smuggle it once its clean type of system jsut to avoid constant smuggling which would make contrband somewhat worthlessfor non smugglers.

I like the whole idea, have to go through customs where you get scanned and if you are detected with contraband you get a TEF where stand by Troopers/faction/overts open fire on you. Granted to prevent from players who dont know that they have contraband and unkowingly pass the scannersonly to getblasted there would have to be 2zones so to speak. They pass through the first zone, the scanners, which would be located at every entrance of a spaceport and certain cities/areas. If you are scanned positive for contraband you are given a warning to destroy the contents or be destroyed. If you decide to not destroy the contents and keep walking passed the last zone you are then met with gun fire. Of course you can always turn back and go back to the planet(s) where it is leagal and hire a smuggler to smuggle it across the borders for you.

Now for smugglers all they have to do is hit there hefty /conceal button and they can walk freely passed the customs to freedom. The leveling system in this might be the amount of contraband you can smuggle at one time.

It's funny i'd have thought that given the popularity of Han Solo in the movies, they would have given us something nothing big but something. Is it an election year those look like politician promises to me. If we give you this we are gonna have to raise taxes.(Which i would like to say upkeep is bloody well nuts in this game). Come on guys give us more than campaign promises hell just tell us what we will eventually get. From the day i heard of SWG i said im going to be a Smuggler like Han. Lol what part of my smuggler is like han? i know how to play dead.

I love just about every idea I've read in this thread. However, I'd like to make one point. People keep rehashing the idea of a "secure smuggling system". That sounds great in theory, but in actuality, if it becomes secure, it's not smuggling anymore. Anytime someone is buying/selling/trading "illegal" goods, there is a certain amount of risk involved. A large part of that risk is simply the question of whether or not the smuggler can be trusted. For that reason, I think the slicing process should remain exactly how it is. Sure, people get ripped off in the slicing process. There are good people, and there are bad people in the galaxy....and then there are people who are simply role playing. "Ha! A rebel. I'm going to steal your weapon and the money you paid me for the slice!"

Smugging needs a rehash.. that much is certain. What would be nice is a little more focus on the major issue: how to smuggle. That, to me, seems more important than working out the balance on spices.
Now, I realise that smugglers are not getting any Love right now. For the record, BE's weren't getting any Love for a long time, and then 'whammo', most of the BE requests came through in one publish. Sure, there are bugs and balance issues to work out, but most of the things asked for, like a much more customisable and detailed cloning system, were actually delivered.
CH's may get a patch every single update, but that is because the CH profession is notoriously an overpowered profession in every game that has it. It needs constant attention to keep it from being abused.
Chefs are about to get a full revamp. Our time is coming as well, I hope. Meanwhile, keep the good ideas flowing and hope that someone is listening. I know it is frustrating, but at least this dev team is not asleep at the wheel like some other ones I won't mention. They are listening, and they have made some real fixes and real improvements to the game. Just not to Smugglers.... yet.

Hey San I like your top 5, especially:

5. Improve slicing, make it more of a skill then just upgrading weapons and armor. I.E. let us slice more things. I.E. Travel terminals, possible wehicles and or packs for secret smuggler compartments, That kind of thing. They need a little more time for this one as well.

The hidden compartment thing really gets my attention with the new crack down stuff. Ifyou guys have not already thought of this, what if not only the compartment gives more space the pack, but can hide contraband? I'm think an extra space that shows up inside the pack. It can hold a limited number of items, say less then 5. Anyhting put in there has a chance to hide contraband on a search. Based on the skill of the smuggler that sliced the pack.

Sound cool.

Digging up these old threads is just good clean.....uhhhhh no, wait a minute...it's dissapointing as h-e- double hockey sticks.

Good times, good times. We were so naive th......wait a minute, again, no we weren't. The funny/sad part is that these threads seem to mesh perfectly with the ones we have now. Nothings changed. Someone not paying attention to the thread date would have no idea that these were 9 months old.
