What does the flow analyzer node do, and are they useful?

Thanks,

FAN's give you a 75% chance of cutting the correct wire when slicing. They're only useful if you live in a cave and have no access whatsoever to Molecular Clamps (which give 100% success).

They're good for a couple things:

1) Flow Analyzer nodes that you make and use will give you a significant amount of General Crafting user XP (or they diud when I was using them).

2) They're good for "practice" slices where you don't want to waste an expensive clamp.

When I did Smuggler on Bria, I used FANs for all my practice slices and did a "best 2 or 3", slicing whatever wire two FANs agreed on. This gave me about 90% certainty on the right wire. And along the way, I got thousands of general crafting xp - enough to get novice AS and novice WS to make my own tools.

FAN's are ok IF;

1) you harvest your own minerals
2) your an artisan that can make cdef's
3) you have your own factory

it was cheaper for me to make fan's and cdef's then it would have been to buy clamps even with the 33% fail rate I got.

I once used clamps for a couple of missions on a terminal.

better use nothing than spend ressources on clamps.

yeah i made the mistake of using them when I first became a smuggler. total waste of money. they are crap. just another useless item disguised as more "content"

Well when I started Smuggler there was no such thing as Clamps. By the time I got to the point I could make clamps there were only 4 master Smugglers on the server that I knew of. I made Novice Smuggler around the 1st of Aug 2003 and Master near the end of Aug 2003.

Back then FANs were worth making.

Caylin is moving to get the Fans and Molecular Clamps a certification in the slicing tree. If/Once that happens, then Fans will become much more useful because they'll be the only tool you'll have when beginning to help you determine what wire is the correct one to cut.
