Right now im all melee in my template and stuff, but it just gets really boring. Smuggler has intrigued me since the game was released and I'm wondering whether or not to pick it up to go along with my favorite profession; rifleman. Point being I've tried every combat profession except smuggler and I'm wondering if it's worth picking up even if its just to BE a smuggler. What do you guys think? Smuggler/Rifleman for my template and stuff.

I'll just copy / paste what I wrote in another similar thread recently, as most of it should answer your questions...
Inventory management as a Smuggler has become a nightmare. Used to, I could do a suit of armor with minimum problems in about 30 seconds. Then they "fixed" something that caused our tools to no longer automatically pull from their crates, which added time and increased the amount of inventory space necessary to take care of this. Now they "fixed" the inventory sort, so more often than not, if you're not on your toes, your customer's items will get lost amongst your own inventory.
And that's just Slicing...
Once upon a time, all of the specials in the DF tree actually worked and were useful to some degree. Now, Low Blow and Last Ditch are both fully functional, Panic Shot is useless, and FD is only halfway useful to Smugglers, but BH and Jedi will soon have that semi-usefulness nerfed completely.
And Spices...spices are the brunt of jokes at Chef conventions. Spices used to be useful (and some are still semi-useful, depending on who you ask). But, along came UBER Doc buffs and Chef foods. Now Spices that once sold for 15k+ per crate are bargain basement items on vendors and bazaars, with Smugglers basically begging people to buy them.
However...if you're really wanting to make credits...and you don't mind a really mind-numbing, time-consuming task. FP brokering is definitely right up your alley. The only problem being...the GCW is DEAD. So, FP sales come few and far between. Oh...and for it to be profitable, you need to be factioned, and you need to have the highest rank possible (Colonel).
All that said though, Smuggler is an awsome profession. Not because of our skills (or lack thereof), but because of the people in the profession. And THAT is why I love being a Smuggler.
And just to QFE (again) what another Smuggler wrote in the same thread:
Smuggler isn't a choice. It's a calling.

To be honest, that reply shows a masochismthat marks you out as a potential Master Smuggler. You'll fit right in

I am sure it has been pointed out elsewhere, but the problem with your inventory being alphabetized can be fixed. When you open your inventory you can click on the button that says something like "Sort by", and then choose the volume option. Since all items have a volume of 1, this causes it to behave much like it did before. Now, when I loot stuff, it is at the bottom of my inventory again. Also, when people trade stuff to me, it is at the bottom of my inventory, where I expect it to be.
BTW - You may have to set the sort to volume, and then log out and back in to get it to take affect.

Smuggler is weird. I took it because a little blue box told me to, and I've not given it up since.
It's a prof that when you have your master tag up, folks will hail you to slice for them, and pay you well for the most part. It's a prof with some broken specials in the weapon line. It's a prof with one whole branch that's largely useless (Underworld).
And then there's the overarching problem of not actually smuggling anything.
Normally, I'm an optimizer. I pick the most efficient thing and go with that. This time, I stuck with a suboptimal character build, and liked it quite a bit for some reason. I still don't know why, but it'll take alot to get rid of that master box, for me.

PS: I think Pistoleer or Teras Kasi dovetails best with smuggler, because you have to have the brawler/Unarmed branch and the marksman/pistols branch to do smuggler. Not sure on rifleman, since I've only done the marksman part of that, but it's less skill efficient than TKM or Master Pistols.

Well I was master pistoleer for a year or so, and I gave that up a month ago as well as my awesome pistols that i had, but rifles will give me heavy AP and I'm imperial so i can walk around with an e-11 rifle and ST armor

I had the same destiny. Some generous guy handed me a fistful of holocrons (during the grind) and told me to seek the path of a jedi. I had smuggler, mastered it and never let even a single skill box go. I'm also TKM and slowly climbing towards pistoleer. I think I'll stick with this triple threat.
I'm having fun being a (IMP) pilot as well. Being a smug isn't for everybody, there have been many letdowns, misunderstandings from our customer base, and lack of content and "the revamp". But I'll tell you all once until I stop playing SWG I'm a smug for life.
Wouldn't have it any other way.

Sorry guys, hate to ruin the mood but I havnt been happier since I finally took that hippo off my back that was the smuggling proffession. I was a smuggler ever since I started playing in 2003 up until I couldnt stand it anymore a month or two ago.
Now Im having fun again...wow. This game feels like a game. Not like before when everytime I played it was like Im going in to work and my boss tells me "Evett, due to financial constraints we've decided to cut funding for supplies to your position. Not only that we've decided to cut your position all together. Actually, I tell you what just...just leave and never come back okay, your good for nothing. Hey I'll call ya later though okay. If your not busy maybe we can hang out and get some beers."
That my loose interpretation.
Although I gotta say, I still check the forums every once in awhile so what does that mean....
