Hello all! I just picked up Star Wars Galaxies a few days ago, so I'm not exactly an experienced player. I did, however, participate in the Beta, but time was tight so I couldn't play that much.

Now, onto my character.I decided that my first character would be a Smuggler. Now, I know that Pistol Specialist and Unarmed Specialist are required skills, but I have no idea what else to have. I browsed the topics here, some of them were helpful, but most of them left me utterly confused. When someone says "1 line of Explorer, does that mean just the first box?

I know for sure that I want to be a Smuggler with some merchant skills, so what skills would you recommend? What skills would you recommend in general for the Smuggler?

Also, what are the best ways to make money? I'm having a hard time supporting myself.

Sorry, forgot to mention 1 thing. How do I learn skills? Also, would you recommend putting skill into understanding other languages?

As a Smuggler I will say a resounding (NO!) to getting languages. Our first skill in the Underworld line gives us an understanding of every language in the game. Now on to your other questions..

When someone says "one line of Exploration" they mean the Exploration tree under Scout. This is frequently on anyone's list of "extra points" skills, because it lets you run up and down hills very well and no one likes hitting a little slope and taking 15 minutes to get up it while underfire. In my opinion, Scout's exploration line is a MUST for any profession that doesn't get +Terrain Negotiation. Additionally, having Scout lets you harvest resources off of the corpses of animals and you can sell those to tailors, armorsmiths, or doctors pretty easily.

As for what I recommend in addition to Smuggler? If you're not really sure, pick up pistoleer until you are. Its easy to work and can be sacrificed without much afterthought once you know what you really want to do with the other points you have. What you do after smuggler is what makes your character unique, only the person who plays the character can really answer this..

You learn skills by joining another person's group and having them use the teach option (available when they radial click on you) then selecting the skill to teach you. They must possess the skill and you must have enough experience to learn it.

Lastly, if you want more information on Smugglers, head to the Smuggler's Den (the link is in my signature) and it will answer probably 99% of your questions about our profession. If not, post on the forums, our community is pretty good about answering them.

(1)low blow, last ditch, ect, what do they do??

They are different types of attacks, obviously. Do a search in this forum. They have been gone overbefore.

(2)spices? what do u need to make them??

There are around 15 different types of spices, needing anything from food, minerals, and upper spices needing radioactive and gemstones.

(3)slicing? do you need anything to slice containers? weapons? armor?

Slicing requires precision knives, no matter what you're slicing. Weapons require a Weapon Upgrade Kit, and armor requires an Armor Upgrade Kits.

(4) are therer any nerfs or glitches that have happened or are coming?

Slicing II and IV are swapped, with a fix on test center. Spice experiementation doesn't work, experimenting on precision knives, clamps, and nodes doesn't do anything for slicing.

There are missions in which you "deliver an item while hostiles attack you" in every profession. I still don't consider [Smuggler's Alliance] pilots to be Smugglers, nor 'Smuggling' - at least not any more than Rebel Pilots or Imperial Pilots might sometimes "smuggle", with a lower-case s - JFreeman - 10/6/04

At the moment, I'm 0-4-2-4 in smuggler, and apprentice commando, rifleman and pistoleer with a bit of medic, scout and artisan. I'm new and wanted to try different things out. I have a couple of questions regarding playing this character.

1) I've read two different things regarding Feign Death. First that it simulated being dead and you can be DB'd. A search of messages through the boards doesn't support that though but I haven't found anything that specifically says so. If I successfully FD, will a critter that DBs still DB me?

2) Is there a site that compares damage multipliers of various weapon styles? All I'm doing now if spamming one style that I think does the most damage (body shot 2 or head shot 2) but with all the options given, I'm sure I'm missing something.

1) Nope. You cannot be DB'd by a critter while successfully FD'd. Careful in PvP, though. You can be griefed with wounds, BF and armour cond.

2)http://killyourpc.org/swg/swg_dps.php

(Oh, and welcome to Smuggler. If theres anything you require, we're at your service.

Nice site, thanks for the link!

I guess I had the information about FD and couldn't believe it would work that simply for something so easily achieved.

Hello,

I was away for over a year and have some questions about the smuggler prof.

When I left smugglers sliced weapons and armor and made spice. Can they do anything else now? Do they still slice armor for encumb and resist? When I left they couldn't determine which way it would turn out, they just sliced them. Is it still that way or can they pick how it works now?

Do they still buy locked containers to practice on?

Thanks

  1. When I left smugglers sliced weapons and armor and made spice. Can
    they do anything else now?

    • No. Yet the developers did lift the 500pnt faction cap for factioned
smugglers and removed the powerup slicing exploit.

  2. Do they still slice armor for encumb and resist?

    • Yup

  3. When I left they couldn't determine which way it would turn out, they just
sliced them. Is it still that way or can they pick how it works now?

    • Still random 100%

  4. Do they still buy locked containers to practice on?

    • Yup
