Thread: spice no more?

KK I have been feverously looking for a post from a DEV that says spice is no more. This is spurred from several posts that say spice is no more. Is this true, I certainly hope not but if so please post link to thread where this was stated.

People might not like spice but all I have to say is slicing and running go here and there missions is not what I call complete. We need to be able to craft our own spice. This allows smuggler to be either a slicer, a runner or a drug czar.

Any way thanks for any info on this matter.

From what I read of Tiggs post in the in concept forum, it's not that we are going to lose spice, just that they are considering removing it as a craftable item and making it something we get from running...better sit down....smuggler missions...it's much like what a number of people have talked about...we pick up a smuggling contract and in the end get a cut of the shipment. If you want spice, you have to smuggle it.

Spice will be obtained by accepting spice smuggling missions and either completing the mission and receiving a payment of credits and say a crate of Spice, or by purposefully not delivering the spice and keeping it for yourself. Spice is also being balanced along with everything else in the CU, so will be desirable andworth something .

I've never been a spice crafter, and never wanted to be.

I'm much happier with being able to SMUGGLE it into the economy rather than crafting it...

I'm all for removing spice crafting from smuggler and change it into spice smuggling ...or stealing....however, please don't tell my the 14 skill points waisted on crafting will now be waisted on npc smuggling missions.

This will not only leave spicing a dead line in smuggling but make it even more worthless since I have to do the mission to get any of it.

My painful vision of this change is they will impliment a system of xps and gated missions just like jtl for the line that is now known as spice crafting. This is all speculation really, and maybe it is negative speculation...I really really hope I am wrong. We will have to do the spice missions to move up the line and the higher spice transporter you get the more important usable spice you will be asked to deliver. Again gaining even less from the line then we do now.

Sorry mate, but I've really got to disagree with you on this one. We're not chemists, we're Smugglers.

In the proposed system, you can still be a pusher, just not a chemist.

I for one am thrilled about it, and you can add one more person to the "yay for smuggling not crafting spice" list.

Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

You wont be wasting the points you will get an entirely different tree. There will be a new kind of exp (Smuggler) akin to BH exp what this tree will do is not entirely clear yet and tthe subject of much animated discusion.

Yeah Zazo, I am fairly certain that tree will be replaced. I'm hoping it's replaced with skills such as;

1. Decoy droids to foil BH tracking droids,

2. BH term slicing to scramble our names on their terminals,

3. BH radarjamming skills,

4. Ability to temporarily change our name,

5. Ability to land at places other than the starports,

Basically avoidance skills is what I'm hoping for.

Fools.

All along you have been making such narrow-minded, shortsighted, and dare I say self-nerfing requests.

You all speak of 'Smuggling' as though it were the one and only element of our profession, and foolishly demanded not only the edition of it as it should have been to our capabilities, but alongside each of those demands, you have all *asked* we be nerfed! *Asked* for the removal of abilities in a profession who has had nothing but castration upon castration of our own talents. Ignoring the rl examples of contraband movers who are directly connected to the manufacture of that contraband (bootleggers, rum-runners), I don’t disagree that smuggler abilities and missions are required. But not at the cost of an entire branch or our abilities!!!

The player-based crafting economy was and always will be a far more profitable means of handling a product for sale than a mechanics-based one like this new proposal. Look to your servers billionaires and hundred-millionaires! What have they done to get there? The majority crafted their way, using player-driven economies to their advantage!

Is there some kind of long-term memory problem in this community? Or have so many left since the chef rebalance that none are left to tell how it was? Before they revamped the chef foods and unbalanced the system completely for us, a smuggler could spend at maximum 2500-3000cr on supplies per crate (incl maint and pwr), and sell that same crate for 8000-15000 cr, the lower number vendors often selling out completely every day! Don’t you think the CU's nerf of doctor enhancements will bring spices just a little back in vogue? And let me ask you, how long does it take to make 3k cr? Versus the time spent on what will likely be 30 min to 1 hr missions for spice? How much spice do you think we'll get? Does the sale of that spice allow us to re-invest in more spice?

What’s next folks? Should we recommend they also remove Slicing? Why not FP buying? Neither of those are 'Smuggling'. Why not. I'm sure somewhere someone else has noticed that every single time we asked for them to give us smuggling, our vocal members have suggested a nerf in exchange. Now, we will be loosing a facet of our profession that was once and (once brought back into balance) would have been the greatest boon to our bank accounts. Shall I start the next trend? Here goes-

We are Smugglers! Not Slicers! Get rid of slicing and give us (long, drawn out, low reward ala BH mission) ***Smuggling***!!!!!

EDIT: Spell checked, as noted below. Meh.

What most people argued for was to make this profession what it SHOULD have been at launch. We are not nerfing ourselves. We are bringin ourselves inline with what a SMUGGLER is. Take some time and look at what that really means. The other things were just skills thrown in to fill out a tree they had no idea what to do with.

In all honesty, I'd trade slicing and FP buying for smuggling, a contraband system, player smuggling, and PC Smuggler bounties. I would trade it, but not everyone else would which is why you'll never see me argue for it. I think it's time for others to have that same respect and honor the wishes of what a MAJORITY of Smugglers have been asking for.

Edit: I 5 starred you Kairan for the spell check. I also removed my initial reference to it. I just thought it was bad form to come in and call everyone fools. Everyone has their right to post here. I've got no problem with you posting. I do find a problem when the people who have been here making positive posts to effect some positive changes to the profession are labeled fools for all their work.

KaiRan you're the fool, fool.

They aren't removing a skill they are REPLACING it, and replacing it with what we are suppose to be doing...smuggling.

If they replaced slicing with yet MORE smuggling I'd applaud that as well. As it is the change they're making to slicing is fine with me.

If they got rid of the stupid fp sales and replaced that with something actually involving the underworld I'd stand up and throw roses to them.

ANYTHING that means more smuggling is just fine with me.

If you want to craft things to eat that give buffs why don't you go become a chef?
