Well I'll shoot straight with ya, I really don't like Jedi being in this game. Always thought it would be a bad idea, and I think the damage that the hologrind did to various professions, the community in general, and the many Star Wars fans that were chased off during this most un-Star Warsy period only reinforces my beliefs. But I had been following this game for years, and I've stuck it out through it all. Jedi were going to be part of the game and I just have to deal with it. Through the times playing a musician in cantinas where there were 5 full groups, but not enough at the keyboard players to fill one group. Through the times when you'd not only find "smugglers" selling slices for "1.5k per, anything under 20% free", but then going as low as 1k per slice if there were other lowballers around. The devs rightfully realized how the hologrind was bad for the game, bad for the people, and bad for the whole Star Warsyness of the game. Soon publish 10 will hit, this was what untold of resources and man hours were spent on while the combat revamp, GCW, and many much needed profession revamps were brushed aside. I'll put awaythe factthat having Jedi in this time peroid ishindering my ability to immerse myself into the game; like I said, I just have to deal with it.
Something I find myself having a hard time dealing with is what publish 10 will bring. From what I have been reading, basically all professions will be second class profession unless you have Force sensitive abilities. Ranged fighters will be able to dabble in the Force to get bonuses to accuracy and speed, crafters will be able to bonuses in experimentation rolls and assembly rolls, entertainers wil get...something useless I'm sure. This goes beyond my problem with the Jedi on every street corner problem, pretty soon if you want to compete, you will be forced to be Jedi-lite at least. My Smuggler triple crown before could only be enhanced by some skill tapes here and there. Now if I want to be a top master pistoleer or TKA, I'll have to become Force sensitve. I'm not even sure what effect Force sensitivity will have on smugglers, I'm almost too heartbroken to even want to know. Probably gonna be either something that should have been done long ago(no 11% master slices), or even more likely it will be nothing at all("wait until JTL"). Please understand, I accept that Jedi are a part of this game. But before they were seperate from everything else as they should be. Now we are going to see a cross-breeding of normal professions/skills and the Jedi profession/skills. I know many like myself are either long gone, or have been sucked into what the game is today(not what so many of us hoped it would be). So saying that, I might be in the minority these days. But what about those of us who are still here, accept that Jedi are here to stay, but want no part of being Force sensitive? Because I choose to not dabble in the Force, all my skills are now second rate? I guess I just needed to vent a bit and put my feelings out there about this game that I've spent countless hours playing, reading about, and discussing.
I know many will probably not read this entire post, and will get the idea that I'm just another schmoe trying to get Jedi nerfed or removed from the game. I hope if you've read this you will see that I'm not, my will in that area is broken. I simply don't want to have second class skills because I don't want to take part in what has been one of the biggest problems in this game for me. Do any others out there feel this same way? Wouldn't you rather Jedi be a Jedi, and a droid engineer be a droid engineer?
I'm left with one of a few options. I think I will take part in the Force dabbling to unlock a second character slot. This new character will be used to create a pure bounty hunter combat template. My other option is to simply drop smuggler. I would be surprised if the smuggler revamp happens before next summer is over. I'll have ample time to return to being a smuggler if should choose to. I've been toying with the idea of dropping smuggler ever since our first "revamp" was suposed to happen. I was reinvigorated when the devs listened to us and our great correspondant and decided to give us what we really wanted. Now that the combat balance has been pushed back until after JTL, I'm left with the decision to hold onfor another year and HOPE that the devs get it right. I guess you can see my delima. I'm going to be thinking hard on this one, giving up on what I've wanted to be for so long. If I decide to drop smuggler, I'll have to give the smith I work for a few weeks notice. He's been very kind to me and I hate feeling that I would let him down. But I've got to make this game fun for me, and waiting on our revamp is just going to kill my love for the game.

well I play a crafter as well as a smuggler so I know how you feel... People will be looking for smiths with FS abilities...so I'm gonna go get them.
However a few things should be remembered:
- The FS abilities are pretty much a joke. The crafting trees were the "gotta have" trees and they were nurfed when a large portion of the crafting community had the same concerns you did. (They now only slighly improve the roll on assembly and experimentayion rather than grant extra experimentation points). The combat skills are something that would be nice to have ... but hardly something you would NEED to keep up with the community.
- There are no FS skills which influence the smuggler profession. The combat can help indirectly (but again not to a significant degree) ... but as far as smuggler goes ... you'll be just as effective smuggling with FS as you are now ... of course... there is no smuggling in the game...
- It's looking like the FS skills are going to be pretty easy to get. Getting past them to "jedi" status is going to be the hard part ... but just getting these skills should be pretty easy.
I'll probably get them for the sake of getting them ... but I'm looking at it more along the lines of a theme park with some unique rewards.

Don't worry, if you're a Triple Master, you've no need for the FS trees at all. The Ranged and Melee skills just aren't good enough to give up regular skills for (which you would have to if you wanted more than 3 of the FS skill boxes).
I'm doing them to get the second slot, and I'll have to give up quite a bit of skills to do it, but I'm hoping I can drop the FS skills after I get that second character and put myself back the way I'm supposed to be.

I thought the 2nd slot was made available to you once you had the option of FS skills (not after you actually spend points on thme). I think you get the slot before you have to make the secision of dropping skills.

I remember that, in the movies, all Han needed was a pistol and a few skills to be one of the best smugglers in the galaxy. He didn't need to be buffed, decked out in expensive armor, and Force sensitive to do any of his work.

Bossov....
Anyone who pays money to play a MMORPG hopes to get something out of it. Maybe its that fewminutes a day when they feel in control of their life (virtual though it may be). Maybe its the ability toconverse with other people and not be judged by the way you look or sound in real life. For me, its that few minutes of escape from the job and the real world where I can go meet my friends and have a few laughs without the wife worrying where I am, LoL.
But the bottom line is the game has to be enjoyable. It doesnt sound like you are enjoying the game right now. Maybe a break for a while might help... maybe take a week or two or three or more away and see if you miss it at all. By the way, I did read all of your post - not sure I understand all your feelings that you put into it,but I did read the words.

I say all of that to say this:
First, if everybody were Jedi, this came would stink.Seems like it would be the same as you being Superman, but everybody else in the world is superman too- what's the point.
But the real thing I wanted to say isthat the game can get just plain boring. I have played since launch, and did not hologrind (well, one holocron... smuggler.. which i still am today). I am master rifle, master smuggler and love them both dearly. But the past few months it is basically "slice, hunt, slice, hunt, etc." I like making money, but the Mokks and Jantas on Dant just arent fun after you kill the first million of them. I've done the Geo Cave, the Corvette, and the Warren. Hated the Death Watch Bunker. Point is, this game needs to change and grow to keep people interested. I got on TC2 last night and played around with the beginnings of force sensitivity until I had to log and go to bed. I AM looking forward to publish 10 because it will add some new content. If JTL is free (has anyone heard?) then I will do that also. So even though I wish everyone would NOT do the "jedi thing", I can understand why a lot of us would.

I reserved my copy at GameStop, and they told me that JTL was going to be $30 when it comes out.

The devs said at FF that there would not be a monthly charge for JTL

Unfortunately, I believe it's after you've actually gotten to the point you can begin the Padawan Trials, meaning after you've spent the 24 skill points. If it was before that point, I'd be a very happy Smuggler, as it would mean I wouldn't have to bork my template, nor would I have to do the horrible XP grind it's looking to be if the Devs don't change the XP conversion rates currently on TC in order to get a second character slot.

This is a game "based" on the Star Wars Universe. Star Wars means Jedi to many people, so they have to be included. Everything must be equally available to everyone, so everyone can be Force Sensitive.
The Force Sensitive skills learned in the quests to become Jedi are not overt skills. They are little (very little actually) bonuses that are not lifing things and such.
