Well, I just yanked this from the Friday Feature.

Privateer

A Privateer is effectively a mercenary pilot. Loyal to neither the Rebel Alliance nor the Galactic Empire, most Privateers are willing to fly missions for any group with enough credits. Privateers might find themselves working for the Smuggler's Alliance on Tatooine, the Corellian Security Forces (CorSec), or even the Royal Security Forces (RSF) of Naboo. Privateers utilize a variety of craft, including those originally designed for criminal groups such as the Hutts and (*classified*). Through rigorous training and various underworld contacts, Privateers learn exotic piloting techniques and master black-market droid programs.

The life of a Privateer involves a great deal of conflict. Privateers who work for reputable groups might find themselves policing systems and battling pirates. When running missions for the Hutts or the Smuggler's Alliance, a Privateer is likely to run afoul of local authorities or even the Empire.

I'll take my guess that *classified* is Black Sun and after reading this I have a very annoying feeling that if I want to feel like I'm smuggling, I'm going to have to take Privateer over say... Alliance or Imperial pilot.

/sigh

Or.. replace the Spice Tree with a Privateering/Piloting tree.... yeah, that would work nicely...

That fits really nicely with our faction selling skill ... not. So what's the deal, sell rebel faction or be a smuggler that can actually smuggle? That sucks. Although i guess if it came down to it, i'd drop my rebel faction to get smuggling missions as a privateer but i'd rather keep my colonel for the GCW (should it ever come to a galaxy near me ...).

You can be a factioned player who plays privateer.

There is no faction requirement for Privateer as I understand it. You simply can't be both a privateer and a Rebel pilot.

So... you can still sell faction and take down bases and fly the YT-1300 .... you just have to choose between the YT-1300 and the Xwing I guess.

I still think the faction selling stuff in Underworld has no place in the Smuggler profession.

Smugglers shouldn't be Imperial. Who are Smugglers trying to smuggle things past? Well, the Empire...

I don't think Smugglers should be Rebels, either. The Rebels are "good guys." Smugglers aren't. Han Solo was no longer a smuggler after he aligned himself with the Rebels.

My opinion.

Excellent! If we're really lucky, all smuggling will be done by Privateers, so those of wanting to smuggle can dump THIS busted-ass profession.

By god Chicken Little, take a step back. Nothing there implies that Privateers will get smuggler missions. All it says is that Privateers will get combat missions from a variety of sources but there is absolutely no reference to Privateers taking on smuggler missions.

Yes, they mentioned the Smuggler's Alliance, but they most likely meant that the player would engage in some type of combat (read: non-smuggling) mission for the Smuggler's Alliance.

Haha, perhaps the didn't properly convey the intended silly in my post. Be SOOoooooothed, that wasn't genuine alarmism. Yet.

There are missions in which you "deliver an item while hostiles attack you" in every profession. I still don't consider [Smuggler's Alliance] pilots to be Smugglers, nor 'Smuggling' - at least not any more than Rebel Pilots or Imperial Pilots might sometimes "smuggle", with a lower-case s - JFreeman - 10/6/04

Why can't a smuggler be imperial? I'm imperial and a smuggler and like the idea. Why wouldn't the empire pay a smuggler to bring in new technology or new weapons from outer realms of the universe, places that wouldn't be nessearliy friendly with teh empire. There is more in the universe than simply the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance. It would seem to meet Palpatine's interest to have an imperial smuggler loyal to the empireas spies in a very information charged profession. Anyway this is my thoughts and its my story so i'm sticking with it lol.

Personally I feel they took the wrong approach here.

There should have been neutral pilots, but they should not have been considered mercenaries straight out of the gate. There were legitimate pilots who were not mercenaries...

They put an almost entirely criminal spin to Profiteer that I really *really* dislike.
