i just took my lunch break. i tried to read through Electronomad's "Smugglers in SWG History - As Written by the Devs" thread. i couldn't even make it past June 2004 by the end of my lunch...

anyway, i noticed some post in there by Thunderheart about how they (the devs) consider the tone of the forums to be an important thing. and the jist i got was that if we refuse to behave, then they'll refuse to communicate.

so have we been acting like fools? sure we're mad as hell. but did we go too far?
did we bring this lack of communication on ourselves by having a bad "tone"?
or should we blame their seemingly endless string of broken promises for causing that "tone"?

how did we arrive at this point?

Tone in the Jedi forum is way worse and they got help

Tone in the BH forum is way worse and they got help

Tone in the Smuggler forum has gone up and down - did we get more Devs coming by during the "We Digg Tiggs" phase?

I doubt it, if they were to base all releases on forum content, the Jedi profession would be a thing of the past.

You, doin' that thing you do
Breaking my heart into a million pieces, like you always do
And you, don't mean to be cruel
You never even knew about the heartache
I've been goin' through

Well, I try and try to forget you girl
But it's just so hard to do
Every time you do that thing you do

And I, know all the games you play
And I'm gonna find a way to let you know that
You'll be mine someday
Cause we, could be happy, can't you see
If you'd only let me be the one to hold you,
And keep you here with me

'Cause I try and try to forget you girl
But it's just so hard to do
Every time you do that thing you do

I don't ask a lot girl but I know one thing's for sure
It's the love I haven't got girl
And I just can't take it anymore (whoa!)

Cause we, could be happy, can't you see
If you'd only let me be the one to hold you,
And keep you here with me
'Cause it hurts me so just to see you go
Around with someone new

And if I know you, you're doin' that thing
Every day, just doin' that thing
I can't take you doin' that thing you do

First off.. i dont think that the Smugglers misbehaved to a certain point. The community, atleast in my point of view ( as worthless as it is) wasusualy well mannered, funny, truthfull and verynewbie friendly and the most Loyal Community in SWG. I can name atleast 2 Communities that have non of the just mentioned and they get stuff all the time. Why should SOE rate the Smuggler any different as the other profession? Because we have a "history"? Those Smugglers here arent 14 year old kids. They are mostly dudes/dudettes with a family or having one soon ( Gratz Saarek /thumbsup ). We usualy dont flame aslong its not a Jedi troll or a Red Name that tries to sell us some fancy excuses. The Smugglers here, from my experience, areway laid back and see the things on a different point of view.

Personaly, i dont blame our Community for what happened. The postponed *shudder* revamp was probably pushed back a looong while ago, just no one cared to tell us.

it's funny that you mention jedi, because some might (and some do) think we've been acting about as bad as those jedi nerfherders.

shouldn't we be striving to act better than them?

i realize they get a lot of attention. but i don't think it's because of their poor behavior.
they're the jedi, they're "the chosen one", they're the marketing department's wet dream...

we're just plain old Smugglers. sure Han was the keystone of Star Wars, but he's been trampled in the dust by Lucas and his experiments in GCI known as the prequel trilogy.

i dunno. just food for thought.

I was getting ready to type the exact same thing....

We did not bring this on ourselves...we waited paitently, we made suggesstion after suggesstion on our ideas to make the profession better....waited for CU to come to pass...we get ready and what do we and all every other non BH or Jedi get in response?

"New features will be move out to a longer term implementation. "

......geee.....freakin thanks.....a total cop out response....

With that one sentence they have effectively ended communication with us for quie awhile. Why you may ask? What are they going to come on and mention? New items to showcase? features? changes?....nope....why?

"New features will be move out to a longer term implementation."

They are simply going to throw up bug fix lists and that is it. Then the great wall of silence goes back up.

So show me any incentive of why we should continue to waste great ideas and thoughts on theseand darn near every other profession boardto better our profession.

Please enlighten me.

Though I didn't post much in the past - this forum is by far the best forum i ever knew. Funny and truthfull and for the most part intelligent.

Did we (and the ones before us) bring it on ourselves.
No. But there always has been the air of rebellion in here.
And why not - i choose this profession for a reason - as many of us did.

And this reason shines

Always (although to little avail) are we plotting, scheming, trying to lure people to do out bidding.
Damn we are smugglers.

And I tell SOE and the DEVs and the SUITs and the HOLY GEORGE himself:
Do right by us, and we will lure people back into this game, and plot and scheme to let everyone know that in SWG you can to things out of our humdum world. I would for sure.
Theres so many people I know, thirsting to play and be something different - If I only had a reason and argument to tell them its in here (not talking smuggling exclusivly either)
No Game has the potential this one has, not yet, not anytime soon.

There's honor among scoundrels there's just none among the ones that make this game.

I would say no, citing not only the tone of the BH/Jedi forums and the subsequent changes there, but also the fact that the complaints here were not always at the boiling-over stage. This is the tone of two years of neglect and dashed hopes.

"If you're just going to be meanies, then I'm not going to talk to you!"; /crossarms; /turnback;"Humph!"; /stormoff

Not a very professional reaction, says I.

Arrr.

very good points. i agree that this community, this forum, is the most tight-knit, intelligent community in the game.

i'm definitely not trying to say we did in fact bring this on ourselves. just starting a discussion.

and i definitely don't think we should just roll over and take any B.S. that comes our way.

but i would say that some, and this is a small some, of our recent postings have degraded below our usual standard. i am just as guilty as anyone.

perhaps "outrage" wasn't/isn't the best course of action?

2yrs of lies is how we arrived at this point, the smuggler community has always been very understanding of the changing direction of the game up until that is the last few months even the nicest of people can be pushed too far.
