Thread: Damage decreasing on weapons after sliced? % not adding up!?!?!

Ok, I'm looking for an explanation here and would be curious if anyone knows how SOE implements their fuzzy math.


I had a pistol, lvl 50 with max dmg 750, sliced for 8% dmg and it increased to 754.


Also, applying a dmg pup +%29 to a weapon with 800 dmg equals +110 points of dmg.


Dropping a +%29 dmg pup on a weapon with 998 dmg increase it to 1155.


Can anyone decipher this garabage known as SWG's game mechanics?

*edit - wanted to add: I've seen some instances where the dmg had gotten worse after getting sliced 8%.

Any chance the pistol hit the hard cap with the slices?


there is another post/thread in this forum that deals with the crafting caps and the slicing caps. In some cases the slicing cap is lower than the crafting cap. I took this to mean that if you sliced (for example a Adv laser rifle) a 1184 dmg rifle (crafting cap) it could reduce to the slicing cap, instead of going up.


This is what I got from the thread I was referring to :



ADV Laser Rifle

Max 1184.5 Slice Cap 1183

Speed 2.17 Slicing Cap 2.15

Wound 14.95%

SAC 82

Well...I've seen msgs that a weapon was not able to be sliced but why would a player be able to slice a weapon if the adjusment would lower the stats?


This is another reason why SMugglers are obsolete and no longer a fixture in this game.


Unfortunetly I will no longer be needing Smugglers to slice any of my weapons do to this error and faulty coding by SOE's developers.


To create a desire to experiance player content there needs to be a gain from partakin in such activities...not a penalty.


Has this game gotten that bad?

This is a sliced FWG5 without pup and is hitting 998max dmg. With a pup it hits 1155.


What is the highest dmg obtainable on a pistol???

the WSs have a thread with all the hard caps they know of for weps. There are a few examples where the "slicing cap" is lower than the craftable cap. Meaning if it's crafted at dmg cap and you slice it, it will drop to the slice cap.

dmg cap on a featherweight fwg5 should be 966. If it was crafted higher than that then a slice will drop it to 966.

It's as I state. featherweight fwg5 998 max dmg sliced and 1155 with pup.






it's lowering because the gun was somehow crafted above the intended cap. I don't know if it was a pre-CU gun that converted amazingly or if the crafter exploited to get the 998 max dmg. Either way, or any other method for that matter, you shouldn't see a non-pupped fwg5 with more than 966 max dmg.

I am so sorry. This has kind gotten off topic - my fault.


The fwg5 was an example not relating to the real question.


The Ion Stunner Pistol is 750max dmg although when sliced to 8% the max dmg goes up to 754.


I am having a hard time seeing how this weapon would be allowed to be sliced when it were already capped. The prblem is wasiting additional slices into it when there's no return for the added "improvement".


Even the Ion Stunner only incease to around 810 max dmg when applying a +%29 dmg pup.

Actually, the minimum damage keeps going up, but noone ever notices min damage...

Now to th enext question...why would a smuggler be able to slice a weapon which is able capped? I had thought they would be denied the abliity to slice a stat if it were already at its cap.
