I've been scanned a fair amount of times and have had to fight a couple times. I loved it. I want more of it.

I hope this new system does not go live, because

Plan B does not in ANY WAY make carying contraband more risky than carying normal gear.


Breakage (Plan A) did (or at least was meant to).


Plan B does not accomplish the goals of Plan A ... it's a really REALLY bad plan B.

I like the idea of having the slice effects disappearing either over time, or randomly poofing altogether. Then the customer would need to return to a smuggler to have the slice retuned. This would allow the base item to keep working in an emergency.


As a (riskier) alternative for higher slices, have theitem's stats drop below original levels when it's in need of a retune. The item keeps working and isn't lost completely, but it won't work to it's maxiumum potential. It's a risk you take when having some whackjob crack open your gun and start cutting wires.

Lets keep this issue alive! I want to stress the Option B thing: You DON'T HAVE to get your gear sliced. If a player wants to take that risk, it's their decision. Breakage can be accepted, but only if the general public know the risk.


I say we increase the crackdown factor with the breakage system. Only the truly bold walk around with contraband because they know the risk and are willing to take it.


Someone please direct a red name in this direction.

Against my better judgement, I'm starting a thread just for this issue. Supporters: Show your support. Let's be constructive about this.


Obviously, the removal of the breakage system for sliced items is...upsetting for some, including myself. This is due to the "no risk" factor. In the previous system, the risk was that you wouldn't get the slice you wanted or you would get a low slice. I would like to think that it's safe to say that this was no fun for anyone, smuggler and non-smuggler alike. Now with thebreakage system...


Option A: Get a couple weapons or whatever sliced. It's always good to have a backup weapon, sliced or no. People did this before anyways.


Option B: DO NOT get your gear sliced. Nobody has to risk their weapons getting "jammed." If this is confusing, don't get your gear sliced. I don't put money into the stock market because I don't understand it. Same thing.


Now there is no risk for having illegally modified weapons. A functional crackdown would be better, but I can't see that happening(didn't work the last 2 times).


In my opinion, removing breakage is a big mistake. My other issue with new slicing is the component thing, but I can get used to that if this other thing is taken into consideration.

The devs need to turn up the scan rate for Crackdown and scanning troops. I have been scanned ONCE since planetary control and the new scanning teams arrived. That is not cool.

I've actually gotten scanned 4 times since the whole thing started. Twice by troopers, and twice out in the wild by the little probot. They never found anything on me, of course.


That being said, the number of times I've been scanned should be more like 400 in the same time frame to make the Contraband system less of a joke.

I get scanned a lot but only by Rebel Troopers and each time they say oops Sorry Captian Sharpe. I actually have a macro that says Damn Straight I can press after they say that.

"breakage" was an awkward attempt at creating a risk for carrying a sliced item.

i understand the concept and fully agree with it.

but contraband scans would be a much more immersive and effective system.

they need to do more than turn up the number of scans though...
they have to make it so getting caught with contraband REALLY effects you.
they've said confiscation is too drastic although i don't agree (but i can see why people would agree).

so why not have it so the Stormtrooper jams your weapon? they could put something similar to a restraining bolt on it.
and you have to see a Smuggler to slice it off.
or maybe they could Unslice your weapon?

you'd still get to keep your uber base weapon, but you'd lose the added bonus of a slice.


there are so many awesome ways to add after slice risks that it's rediculous. and we'll probably never get any of them.
