Just a bit of curiosity. I view smugglers as eh; business persons of a sort.. they're in the Frieght and Shipping business, just running a bit of eh, contraband on the side to make some extra profit.
With that in mind; and keeping in mind the changes coming to us in the near future through both the CU and Smuggler Revamp... would working up the Artisan's Business line still be usful to us for selling things? For that matter what about a couple of the first Teir Skills in Merchant?
This is assuming of course that with the changes to Spices, we'll be able to sell them on our own Vendors?
Or is SOE going to implement some sort of Imperial Ban on the sale of Contraband on Vendors?
I have a Small House set up to use as a sort of Business Office and Main Warehouse; where the back rooms are hidden and I think it would be cool to run some sort of illegal contraband operation out of there... possibly even help to attract more visitors to my PA's city.

Darth; "Or is SOE going to implement some sort of Imperial Ban on the sale of Contraband on Vendors?"
LOL, isn't that kind of what 'contraband' implies?

I had a spice vendor for the longest time and made alot of money, before the chef upgrade. Not much demand after that. Would love to do that again though. I had alot of fun with it.

I can't help thinking, with the bazaar maximum price changes, that investing sp in Merchant purely for Smuggler items, all worth well under 20k, is a bit of a waste

Good point, but you can only have 20 items at a time on the bazaars.
EDIT: I had around 400+ items stocked on my vendors at all times.

You're refering to the current items we have... our current spices and such. As Mathu Copon noted in his post above yours, after the chef upgrade our spices are not much in demand these days and so not making us any money.
I, however... am refering to after the CU and after our own (supposed) Upgrade as described in the "In Concept" forum, which is making it look like we're not going to be crafting spices anymore. We'll be getting them from our Smuggling runs.
So assuming SOE does those Spices right, and they're valuable again... then is a couple Teir 1 boxes in Merchant worth the SP?.

Good point, I'd forgotten about the Smuggling revamp in this CUtrix frenzy
But I must say I'll be devastated if the spices we smuggle are allowed to be sold on vendors. That seems to fly in the face of any underworldyness. I never saw us as legitimate transporters, bringing spice back from the East on the Cutty Sark - I saw us as the drunken one-eyed captain of the delapidated warhorse Olde Astoria, anchored off the wilderness somewhere, ferrying in plundered gold and muskets to thse rich anddishonest enough to want them

So.
Anyway one else have any thoughts on this? Should we be able to sell our new smuggled spices on our own eh .. backroom Vendors.. and would Merchant skills be worth seeking for this?

With over 800+ items currently and that's most of my resources stacked into 100k then yes Merchant is very important to me. The amount of items will decrease after CU with my ST-Armour taken away from me
Then when the smuggler revamp hits I'll be removing 4/5 of my smuggler tools if not all of them.
I'm currently making anywhere between 1-5millon a night when I'm not online mostly from faction perks. The skills invested into merchant come only a second to those invested in master smuggler for cheap faction perks

But EnderUK...you notice you don't actually SMUGGLE anything? So...can we all call you a shopkeeper and not a Smuggler?
I say we make all that crap you load up your vendor with REAL contraband and you can have a swarm of Imps shooting at your customers, confiscating your goods and locking your vendors up in some deep dark dungeon.
Man, you're selling CONTRABAND on a public vendor! You see nothing 'odd' about that? Bleh...what an asinine system.

I find plenty of things odd in this game, selling contraband on vendors is not unusual in my book, unless there's 20 stormtroopers buying stuff off of it. Maybe the Underworld tree could have a use of contraband on vendors sometime in the long future, who knows.
