Thread: Low Blow

I'm wondering how effective the Low Blow shot is. I need a ranged pistolknockdown to use with my template and was wondering if this is a effective attack. How often does it land? Does anything seem to be immune to it.

The only other Pistol Knockdown in the game is pistol melee defence 1, which I have now. Does anyone know which is a better knockdown?

PvP or PvE?

It's very effective in PvE. In PvP it's like anything else, if you are up against someone that's loaded up in dodge and resist vs KD (almost everyone), cross your fingers and hope. In my experience with smuggler and master pistloeer, low blow lands more often than pistol melee defense.

There are quite a few different factors that will affect the effectiveness of Low Blow.

  • Your accuracy

  • Your opponents ranged defense

  • Your opponents vs. knockdown

  • Your opponents active defense (dodge, counter, block) <-- as pointed out by the above poster...

Assuming you can land it, I find it effective a majority of the time. Of course, there are going to be classes that are extremely difficult to knockdown and that can be aggravated by vs. KD food and SEAs. If you are accurate enough or your opponent's ranged defense is weak enough for you to land a shot, I would say you hae a good chance of KDing someone.

I have found Pistol Melee Defense to be a bit more reliable but it requires melee range. However, that statement is based on PvE. I use a TK knockdown for melee range.

But to your original statement, if you want a ranged KD, Low Blow is the way to go. The unarmed lunge you trained at novice brawler may be more effective as a melee KD because of the longer range. The downside is you have to unequip your gun.

The template im thinking about is BH 4/0/4/0 (for pistol speed and accuracy, Pistoleer 4/0/4/4 (for defences), Smuggler0/4/3/0 (for Low Blow and slicing).

This template will give me a Pistol Accuracy of +115, and Speed of +109, and almost all Pistol specials. Plus the ability to slice on the side. Do you think the +115 accuracy will be enough or shoul I spend some money on SEAs and AA. Or should I go Pistoleer x/4/x/x and drop some skill points from somwhere else.

Anyone have any exsperence with a template like this?

Is Last Ditch really that much better than Torso shot or Stopping Shot? I think the damage mod on Last Ditch is X 6.0 and Torso and Stopping Shot is X 5.0. I was considering Last Ditch but I cant stand specials that target randomly.

Then you may have a problem here. Unfortuantely, all of the good Pistoleer/Smuggler specials (ie.ones that actually work)that are worth anything are random HAM shots.Stopping Shot, Last Ditch, Fan Shot, Panicall random....Unless you go BH and get Eyeshot the only targeted attack that's worth anything will be HealthShot2, which you got at Novice, and even that isn't anything to get excited about compared to other ranged classes DOTs. Look in the stikies on the pistoleer forum to see exactly the state of our bustedass specials. The Pistoleer corespondant, RandonB did a nice job of summing them up...

One of the big advantages of Last Ditch is the 75% chance to stun. Unlike a DOT, the stun can make all of your other attacks more successful. Outside of eyeshot dizzy, it is the only state attack with a pistol I believe.

Yup, the big advantage that Last Ditch has is the Stun effect. If you reach the Pistol speed cap and can fire every second, it doesn't matter if it attacks random HAMs, you will still be dishing out a tremendous amount of damage.

I love it when I can finish up a drawn out PvP fight with just a single shot to a HAM stat with low points in it

Plus, while stunned, your opponents defences go down some, and its much harder to change postures. Couple that with a simple Posure Down attack, say, Covering Fire, or a knockdownattack such as Low Blow(I still cringe when I have to use that shot on anotherguy ),and you can up the damage due to the fact that the lower your opponent's posture, the higher the damage modifier you get for all attacks.

The KD from TKA is easier to land on people than lowblow in my experience.

+115 is quite a bit of accuracy. You can go as high as +140 but I think you may be into the point of diminishing returns. Most likely, if someone's defense is so strong that +115 is not a problem, you should really be looking at some state attacks to reduce defense. Currently, the best way to get through defense is not with more accuracy but with effective state attacks.

If I were in your position, I would not spend additional credits on accuracy unless I really needed it. As a master pistoleer, I find I either land close to all my shots or miss a whole heckuva lot. If I miss, it is against stackers and state attacks come into play. You will have greater accuracy than I so take that for what it is worth.

A speed of +109 will allow you to fire any pistol special with any pistol at the cap.

I am working on a similar template, and just want to give you one word of advice. Last Ditch (okay, that's 2 words). Find the 2 points to get this skill. It rocks. Also, I keep going back and forth as to whether I want to master Pistoleer, or Smuggler. I think Smuggler, because thats how I view the character, but ultimately I may have to go M Pistoleer, simply because I'm in a major PvP guild, and need all the help I can get.
