Well in all honesty I'm getting a little depressed about the state of our game. I'm not going into the whole CURB argument because in truth I don't have an opinion formed yet. I haven't tested it. I don't know.

But some old timers are so upset over the whole thing they are leaving. I'm not talking about our typical run of the mill exodus that occurs now and then in SWG. I'm talking about mass upheavel from opinions and people I have really grown to respect. The AS Corr gets the boot... The WS corr, who is on my galaxy and I respect and trust implicitly with all things SWG, has stepped down. Reviews are awful for SWG and things are buzzing all types of negativity from everywhere it seems like.

I don't want people to respond to this with CURB hate/love per se. This isn't about the CURB. This is about a game I love becoming something less than it was. And it's about having to say goodbye to friends over it. I have to admit...thoughts of cancellation have crossed my mind. I'm an utter Star Wars fanboi and I'm clinging to my love of the SW universe...not to mention my guild (an RP one on Tempest) has some great people in it who show no real signs of giving up, although we've not had the fun opportunities we've had in the past.

I am writing this because this is the one place that always...wait...generally cheers me up. The Smuggler Community is a persevering light in the perverbial darkness. A chuckle and a laugh usually gives me a little hope for the future of SWG. And I suppose that's why I'm writing this. And maybe for a little insight and perspective from our own community guru's...you know whoyou are.

And to end on a positive note... I do love this game. Real life, as of late, has kept me away for a good while but I am always glad to know that this universe is here for visits when the real life one puts the brakes on me. I don't want it to get crappy. I like the good feelings and friends I've made. So give me some hope SMugglers... Tell me everything is gonna be ok. Throw me a bone here.

I apologize from the melancholy tone with which this post drips.

I'm really lost as to what you're asking. But I will go with the generic response and say:

Play the way you like. If you're still having fun, play the game. Just because someone else doesn't like it, doesn't mean you have to quit with them or whatever. Just have fun. And when your fun having is worn out and you don't like playing the game, then it's time to cancel. There are other ways to keep in touch with friends. But, I suspect you should stay because it sounds like you're still having fun but just getting bummed out about the reviews of the CU by other players You should decide on your own.

I'm not quitting yet because I don't think the whole CURB thing is done till it's done. I'll fight like hell for what I think it SHOULD be though.

We also still have the Smuggler Revamp being promissed us as soon as CURB is live. That will be my next marker for how long I'll stay.

Right now I'm not in the least happy with either of my characters. (yes, I've had exactly two characters since Live that I play and never once have I wavered from their chosen professions.)

But I'm hanging on in hope that the parts of the CURB I'm unhappy with will change due to player pressure AND that we'll actually get a revamp THIS time.

I have set my deadline though...I needed to do that just so I don't keep hanging on ad nauseum.

Play until you just see no hope and aren't having any fun.

It's change...a very drastic one at that...people hate change, they always have they always will. read the facts take note of the opinions then try it for youself and decide.

Ahhh cheer up man. Turn that frown upside down. Buck up little camper.

What the !?!? Is this Boy Scout camp? Are you a smuggler or a camp follower?

Your a smuggler man, who cares what other people are doing.Make decisions for yourself. Smugglers dance to their own beat and toot their own horn. Stop being a follower and play the game your way. You don't have to be a leader by any means but geesh, get your mind together and be your own man. If you like whats happening, who cares what others say? If you don't like whats going on, who cares what others say? Make your own decisions for yourself.

Eek out your own existence between the folds of fat thedevs and whinersgive us and enjoy the fact that you can, while you can. Pinch every little drop of joy you can get out of everything and then dump it as soon as the fruit is dry. Then find a new fruitand doit again. Skip what others say, apples better than oranges, blah blah blah... I like lots of fruit and can learn to like many others as long as I can make something alcoholic out of it.

Youwant a revolution? Then make it!

Do what you feel. My guild is dead, and I hardly play much anymore unless it is to test. This game could be so cool, but I think a TON of cool things they could add to the game aren't because some people are making some bad decisions for this game.

For the record, I don't think the CU is a bad decision at all. There is a ton of great ideas like the ones we spew around here that aren't added, i.e. Crimelord Profession, smuggler bounties, REAL player smuggling, actual law enforcement.

In the game Ultima Online, the town guards would beat the crap out of you quite uncontested. In this game, you can one-shot cops and go on about your business.

Some things in life need an edge to it. When you homogenize the Star Wars universe, you are left with nothing but blase'.

I miss the old UO...pre-Trammel UO that is. *sighs nostalgically*

I quite support what the CU is trying hard to correct. What I don't support is what it utterly trashes in the attempt.

Too much of the depth, richness and compexity of our world gets thrown out in the CU. I LIKED the 9 component HAM...I remember back before beta when I found out about how HAM was treated I was EXCITED. What the CU replaces it with is plain-Jane vanilla arcade-game HAM. Sure, it helps solve some of the issues with buffs and mind-targeted attacks we had, but it does so at WAY too great an unnecessary expense. It was the easy way out.

I'm telling you Spinning, they are using the K.I.S.S. principle. If they served me 31 different HAM bars that almost worked, I wouldn't take it over having just ONE that could at least do the job.

The old HAM system is like a couch: it is soft, silky, and I get no negative responses from my pick-up lines, but it will never do the job a woman can.

I think my sig pretty much sums up how I feel about the CU.

Nonetheless, I will stick around and see how things shake down. I don't know how it's going to affect the face of the game. It could make it drastically better, it might be horrible. I won't really be able to tell until we put things in a Live environment.

Just my 2 credits.

Theed was a bustling commerce city...people hawked their wares, danced, laughed, dueled, and had a rollicking good time. Cantinas packed with Entertainers of every race, shape and size...along with scoundrels, Stormtroopers, and drunks. People grouped up and stuck together in the wilderness, and you ALWAYS took a Scout or a Ranger with you. We lived our own Star Wars saga. We created our own personas, our own histories, and it all blended into this wonderful, magical experience that I will always remember...

That magic is gone now, but I'd pay 50 bucks a month to have it back.

Editor's Note: The author of the above post has quit giving SOE her money. She suggests you do the same, because this game will never be what you want it to be.

Something tells me that the CU is going to hit live in "less than ready" condition. I'm also not really familiar with Gordon Walton's concept right off the top of my head too.

I'm not sure how it differed in detail either Ternque, but I do know that Gordon's overall principle was to do it right before anything goes to publish. That, obviously was thrown out the door along with him when "the suits" decided everything was coming Cinco de Mayo regardless of any sort of integrity.

I like the CU, but you bring up the most important point and that is that the game is not what it could be. But, everyoen has a different idea of what that is, so it's not that suprising. The potential though is one thing that keeps many people around...eventually it will more closely align with what we all think this game should be. The question is whether you want to stick around to affect change and be a catalyst, or quit now and come back when people tell you it has reached that point of "perfection"?

I prefer to stick around and affect change where I can, as long as I'm still having fun.
