I'm a new smuggler, not sure what to get which would help me in PVE, not PVP.
I hear Pistoleer is the most important, what else is there?

BH is a good profession to compliment Smuggler. Lots of good specials to use there.

I'm master smuggler/master pistols/4 4 0 0 rifleman using both +ranged distance arms. I think when the final respec comes out I'm gonna master rifle and do 0/4/0/4 pistols. I find it great in PvE using an advanced laser rifle, I got the concussion shot and stopping shot (which I use only in emergencies it doesn't last nearly as long as concussion).

Im currently enoying Master Smuggler, Master Carbineer, Master Marksman and Rifleman 3xxx(fr extra accuracy and Improved Headshot). Very nice.

Im using master smug, master SL, and pistols 0 0 0 4
The fanshot and stopping shot isa must, since I cant usually get concussion to stick unless im right up in his grill.
Got to have a laser rifle handy too.

I was going to suggest MS/Commando to go for the borked combo, but Rueger beat me to it with SL. ![]()
I'll still suggest it because of the AoE (nothing like rooting/mezzing a whole group) and the explosions.

atm im master smuggler, master pistoleer (gotta update sig) and im goona toss in some commando just cuz i want to wear the rebel assault armor... is it just me or does anyone else thing that armor looks siiiick

lol ya.
But I run my guild so I gotta bit the bullet and be SL. Hey, they have 2 or 3 usefull things. (that terrain neg is really hepfull). And i can rally myself.
But ya, its nice to have 2 out of the three holy trinity proffesions. In a few months, im going to be a completly new char, and no extra grinding!

I have tried a few templates.
Master Smuggler / Master Bounty Hunter - Awesome combo. BH missions, the great Proton Carbine, and Assault armor. Some nice damage specials, a ranged KD, a bleed shot, and some state specials. Great offense and defense mixed with the crowd control of Smuggler. I found I wasn't using half of my MBH skills since I already did enough BH missions when I was a MBH and wanted something different so onward...
Master Smuggler / Master Carbineer / Pistoleer 4400 - Decent offense, and I got to play with Carbines, which were new to me. Charge shot and the extra range worked well. Get a nice Elite carbine and you can get some good damage in there. Stay back, concussion some enemies to keep them out of play, cripple or knock down the others, and you can work over a small melee crowd in PvE before without a scratch.
Master Smuggler / Master Pistoleer / Carbineer 0440 - This is where I wound up. I was missing my pistols too much. I get a bit more defense with this setup, am excellent with a pistol, and still pretty good with a carbine. A good mix.
I tried some melee stuff out too, but since Smuggler is vested in a Ranged professions, you lose a lot. I did Master Smuggler/Master Pikeman / Swords 0040, and that was pretty fun, but I felt out of sorts. I really wanted melee to work with Smuggler, but it seems like you may have to accept a bit less defense or offense compared to a pure ranged template. I am still tempted to try Smuggler/Swordsman.

Currently Master Smuggler, Master Rifleman, pistols 4400 but that's my PvP template. If Iw asn't rifleman I'd be carbine, thinking of moving to carbines anyway since anyone can pcik up a laser rifle and use it.
PvE If you like grouping you might think of going Doc or CM. You might want to go Doc 4000 for heals any way, or 4004 so you can buff and heal yourself and your group.
The thing is there is no Good Template anymore, it al depends on what you wish to do. Do you like pure fire power? Go rifleman, carbine or Swordsman. Do you like being a support class? go healing or squadleader. Would you like to be the king of crowd control, then combine smuggler with commando for area roots and debuffs. Want to tank stuff, then take up TKM. Really any combination can be made effective and in the right situtations great.

I'm Master Smuggler/Rifleman with Pistol 0-4-0-4 I like it get 2 stopping shots and get the big T21 for extra stopping power which pulls 7.5k with lastditch

I'm a Master McChicken, Master Hamburger, and a litte McFries 0.0.4.0
Love the combination. I get a little health, with a little Death, and a side of vomit.
Works well for me.
