My thoughts:

* always - ALWAYS - use clamps

* try to not cheat customers - they are your life blood

If you use molecular clamps, you will always successfully slice the container open, unless you simply do not read to find out which wire to slice first. The thing your customers will have to understand is:

1) Not all containers have something in it.

2) If there is something inside, it's almost always junk.

Following this, there is absolutely no reason for keeping extra containers on hand, unless you are planning to rip them off of anything good that may be in the container. In that case, how is the customer going to know you didn't take the good thing out? When slicing containers for customers, I let them know up front the above two items.

A smugglers "honesty" is what makes or breaks their ability to earn cash in the future. Never ever lie to your customers, because it has a way of getting back to you. It may seam better for them, but in my opinion it would be better to just go ahead and buy a crate or three of clamps and just succeede in opening the containers every time anyway. Either that or be up front about their chances of having the container opened.

Get nice slices on their weapons/armor and more importantly be nice and you will get plenty or repeat customers if that is what you want.

For the love of the Force USE CLAMPS!!!

But I am sometimes a bit dishonest in the positve way. I've been known to hang on to crappy locked container loot and if ever I sliced open a container and it was empty I'd pop that crap in there. I mean it's not cheating them in that they get something where they wouldn't have. I just hate the idea of saying..."Yeah it's empty..." Oh well.

That's really nice of you

For me, I'm a smuggler, and my job is simply to get that lock open. That's what I'm getting paid for. After that, it's none of my business

i usualy hang on to the locked containers once i open them. If I fail I delete them, not try to resell them on the bazzaar. If I were to fail slicing someones container give them one ove the open ones? I know it's kinda dishonest but they would have gotten nothing the other way and who knows what else. This way they think I am good and they will come back.....cuz honestly how many noobs check serial numbers?

Bad idea to "cheat" in that way, even if you're doing it with the best intensions. Some day you'll come across someone who actually did notice the serial, and they'll rightfully accuse you of either cheating or stealing. People who don't know containers can come up empty might as well learn it, this will usually be the smugglers job, as we open them. An idea I don't practice but could help the "lose" of an empty one, tell the customer "darn, this one was empty. "Here, I'll just throw in a little something for you", put a spice in it like a Muon or Pixie, if they know little about containers, chances are they also know little about spices, so they'll be inpressed with the free booster Alternatively as stated above, keep some of the crap you get yourself, then throw in a piece of that, but I'd prefere if you teach people they don't always get lucky.

I'd have to hop in game to double check, but I'm 99.9% sure the Locked Containers don't have serial numbers.

they do have serials. Thanks for all the views and thank you for not flamming me for asking. Following your advice last night i went out and bought 4 crates of 25ea clamps. i stood outside the bank of mos eisley and ran a slicing spam. i ended up getting all of slicing 2 and park of slicing 3 in a couple hours. Also made some future customers. My policy was i'll open it for free and if i mess up on the open i would pay 1 mil credits. i had a line at one point. Great prof, seems like this will be fun. it will compliment my tkm very well

My one rule when slicing containers is...I do not look in the container!

I slice it...I hand it back..then I ask them if they got anything good.

Side note Master Smuggler is awesome! I became a TKM after Mastering SMuggler and they do go together quite nicely.
