Thread: NDA lifted regarding Smugglers slicing ship components

Here is another kicker for yah.
When JTL is launched, all the components for ships will be what they consider 'balanced'.
With that in mind, introducing slicing of these components would only introduce an imbalance of this system. One of monumental proportions.
What we have here is essentially the death of any hopes we had of slicing components on ships as I highly doubt for our profession revamp they will rebalance all the components to ships in the game. In fact I believe they said they were not going to do any more global rebalances to the JTL component system.
So... I'm low on hope for our use in this area.
I dont think it is broken. It just needs to be updated. I am going to be a master smuggler, why? not because I believe they one day will give us content. Because I dont. But because Thats what I want to do....and the 50k payouts after you slice a mission term are cool too!!!

Yeah, I didn't think they would put slicing in on top of reverse engineering, and I'm not really looking for the ability to slice on top of it.
Reverse Engineering should be sprinkled throughout the Smuggler profession instead of the Shipwright profession. That would have been a sweet piece of content thrown to Smugglers.
Shipwrights are going to have their hands full as it is with not being able to make chassis or main components in factories. Now they're going to have every average joe coming up to them with components asking them to reverse engineer them.
Everyone already comes to Smugglers to enhance their weapons and armor. Enhancing ship components seems like a natural progression of the Smuggler profession.

2. I don't really mind that we don't get to slice ship components. Many Smugglers don't slice for the public, some don't slice at all, and some slice but would actually like someething different to do for once. Slicing can already get very tedious; I'd rather they wait and give us somethig to actually smuggle rather than just throw us a bone by giving us more junk to slice.
3. It's important to note that you can't RE crafted items.
4. Also, the number of components required is based on the Reverse Engineering level, not the Mark number or the equipment cert level (although the RE level and cert level are usually the same anyway). I imagine that the RE level can go up to 10, as I've got some items with an RE level of 8 and 10 is the highest that the equipment certs go.

Waiting for something substantial is a great idea in principle.Look how well it's worked out for us so far? Lots and lots and lots and lots of useless talk, but none of thoseinfernal bones!! ![]()
I was *expecting* to be able to do some "special modifications myself" that weren't available to every tugboat captain, merchant mariner and fighter-pilot. I wasn't expecting it now, but I was damned sure expecting it in some future JTL-based smuggler revamp. But from discoveries made in the beta (smuggling missions in the Freelance mission line, unavailabilityof transport ships below Master Pilot, uselessness of transport ships without player gunnersand no mechanisms available for current or future smuggler modifications of any kind), I'm not expecting any sort of future JTL changes for us at all. The need for smugglers isn't there and the mechanisms aren't in place.
Furthermore, the playerbase seems to be adamant that they want *NO* connection between ground professions and space. Everyone wants to get away from the Jedi/BH thing that badly. So hoping for an exception made only for us seems pretty futile:not only might it be technically unfeasible to give us Space assets, no one other than us wants that to happen.
