This is a moot point for me because my"boyz" just can'tfit into hawtpants, it's like trying to squeeze an elephant into ashot glass.

Wookiees and Ithorians will not be able to wear either sets of faction armor because their avatar shapes are so different (and I'm not touching the alien species in the Empirediscussion )

All items will be converted in the Combat Upgrade. Weapons, Armor and all things combat related will be changed. As a general rule, if you hada great itembefore, you should have a great item after the conversion. As we get closer to the live publish, we will be posting more conversion guides to help answer questions during the transition.

How come we just make it so you have 3 sets of armor and each set is bascialy suited for different professions....
You won't have to carry three sets of armor. The armor systemworks more like your second description. Different sets of armor will be certified for different professions and each of the three types can have a different look:
Reconnaissance Armor
Ubese, Tantel, Mabari, Kashyyykian Ceremonial, Ithorian Guardian, Marine Rebel (Factional), Scout Trooper (Factional)
Battle Armor
Padded, Marauder, Bone, Kashyyykian Black Mountain, Ithorian Defender, RIS (Quest), Rebel Battle (Factional), Stormtrooper (Factional)
AssaultArmor
Chitin, Composite, Kashyyykian Hunting, Ithorian Sentinel, Mandalorian (Quest), Rebel Assault (Factional), Shock Trooper (Factional)
