Hi Smugglers! hope I can get a bounty on you soon

Ive got a question about Feign death.
Alot of jedi dabble in your profession only for the feign death skill, so I am looking for a weakness in that skill.

What Ive heard is that you cant FD when stunned, is this correct?
And does other states like dizzy, blind ect.. stop you from FD?

In my experience, the only thing that keeps you from feigning is bersek or lack of pool points. And I'm not 100% positive on berserk since most melee profs and jedi won't need to go berserk to put out decent damage. There is a chance a feign might fail even at master smuggler but I have found it fairly reliable. If you can get their HAM low enough, you can prevent them from feigning. I know it is stating the obvious but the best way to prevent a feign is to deal damage so quickly they don't really know they are in trouble -or- they get caught with too many specials in the combat queue and feign doesn't fire before the incap.

I think being stunned does too, not completely certain though.

Nothing personal, but I think we might not want to give a BH any information on how to kill us since they might well be doing it a lot. I know this isn't a real positive attitude, but we should we make his job easier when that job may be killing us?

I know this isn't going to win me nice guy helper of the year, but a little professional courtesy is one thing, helping another profession to the detriment to our profession seems, well, ill-advised.

Then again this post is probably going to irk the bounty hunters, which might be equally ill-advised. Still it is kind of annoying for a BH to come here and ask us what's the best way to kill us, or am I just being overly sensitive? (I'm still working on leveling my Thick Skin skill tree so I can finally be a MASTER CYNIC)

Giving info on how feign works I don't see as too bad a problem. Giving info on how to break a feign is a completely different story...

I see your point but when anyone comes to the boards for information and aren't clowns about it, I don't really see a good reason not to answer the question. Not answering a question about the profession because it is may be used against us is the same logic as not training a novice because they will take slicing business away from you.

If someone asked our correspondent that question, would he answer? If you believe the answer is yes, no reason why you shouldn't also.

Just my opinion anyway...

I've answered in the past, I figure someone else can do it

If Posture Up isn't working anymore, which is odd as some devs at the summit considered it a feature... (I didn't agree with them) then there isn't anything to do as far as pulling someone out of FD.

I've not tested whether stun does it as well, but it's always worth a shot.

First: Not answering a question about the profession because it is may be used against us is the same logic as not training a novice because they will take slicing business away from you.

With all due respect, I beg to differ. There is a difference. By training a novice to slice, I may take business away from myself or another, at the most I will lose money, but dying is different than slicing. More importantly, I am helping the novice join my profession, or more precisely, I am helping my profession. By helping another profession learn how to directly and adversely affect all members of my profession is another thing altogether, which is not helping my profession in anyway, in fact, as I maintain, I would be hurting my profession by helping others hurt it more effectively. Just because another person can slice, doesn't mean I can't. There are a lot of weapons and armor to be sliced out there and there is no way I can slice them all. And even if we don't train the novice can easily get the training from a NPC, giving a BH the lowdown on information only people with our profession should have is giving away knowledge. Finally, I think the more appropriate place for this person to inquire would be from other BH's, don't you agree? When I have a question about being a smuggler, I don't ask a weaponsmith. I ask my fellow smugglers. I realize this might be a trivial point to you, but for me the essence of it rests in my seemingly unique inclination to roleplay the profession. We are smugglers. We are here for each other. We aren't the BH information bureau.

Second, you wrote: If someone asked our correspondent that question, would he answer? If you believe the answer is yes, no reason why you shouldn't also.

This also doesn't follow, I won't go into a lecture on logic, but the argument is known as Modus Ponens and while it is useful, but it does have problems. This argument is based on two premises, first that the antecedent (the first part or "If the answer is yes") is true, second that there is a valid conditional claim that the antecedent implies the consequent. If it doesn't then you have problems. An entertaining illustration of this problem is contained in Lewis Carroll's dialogue, "What the tortise said to Achilles." A simple explanation is that there is no conditional claim that what is proper behavior for a correspondent dictates proper behavior for a mere player. It is the job of the correspondent to help others play the game. It isn't my job to help them. What is appropriate for them to do is not necessarily appropriate for me. For an argument to be valid, if the premises are true, the conclusion must follow. While it is true I do think it is appropriate for a correspondent to answer such a question, I do not think it follows I should. Furthermore, I do not think it is always appropriate for smuggler correspondent to answer a question for a BH. It seems to me they have their own correspondent, who, I would argue, is more bound to answer his questions, setting aside the fact that he didn't ask the correspondent he asked all such smugglers and I didn't say Caylin shouldn't answer OR that we shouldn't, merely that I felt it was ill-advised. Suffice to say I wasn't advocating a position of telling people NOT to answer, more that I was warning people that answering such a question could be detrimental to their fellow smugglers.

I mean no disrespect to you or to incite any bad feelings, just felt a need to point out a flaw in your logic (the kneejerk result of a minor in logic) and to clarify that I wasn't trying to tell people not to do something, but rather trying to inform them of possible detrimental results from providing information on the weaknesses of our main combat defense. I have no problem with people letting people know how to better kill our profession as long as they are aware they are doing so. I do not believe in censorship, but I do believe in informed decisionmaking and felt some silly need to speak up and point out the consequences of such information sharing.

Hehe holding back information are we?
Well I will test out if stun does anything, as this has become kind if a problem with jedibounties.
Thanks for the replies.

Well as far as bounties for Smugglers being implemented, let's just say I'm a tad skeptical. Not providing information about one of our skills because maybe one day sometime in the future it could possibly be used against us is a little paranoid and naive.

In all likelihood, Feign Death will be changed... If not for the Combat Revamp, of which we're told 'if it has anything to do with combat, it will be revamped' (or some such blather that to me only means "you'll have to re-learn how to play the game") then as part of the Smuggler Revamp (if that is you believe in such wondrous tales), and if not for that, then for the constant cries from those who believe it to need a bit o' nurfing.

I believe that the best place to get profession specific information are the profession boards. When I had questions on how to beat a TK (before I mastered), I went to the TK boards and asked. I did the same thing with BH. I disagree with you on the difference between training and giving information. His question was about a smuggler skill on the smuggler boards.

With Caylin, the point I was trying to make was if the correspondent of this profession would not balk at giving a piece of information out, I see no reason why I should balk either. Yes, the logic is flawed but these boards were meant to be informative to everyone and not exclusionary.

As far as not telling people to do something, I won't attach a motive to your post. But to imply I do not make "informed decisions" or that I don't know the consequences of what I post I found a bit insulting. I like to think I've been in the game, been a smuggler, and been on the boards long enough to know the consequences of my posts.

We'd actually need to be able to smuggle something in ordre to justify giving BHs missions to hunt us.
