Thread: So when do the kids go back?

School starts soon. I'll be glad to get rid of the annoyances running around the apartment complex. My wife is a teacher and this county started Monday, while the neighboring county starts this coming Monday...

And finally after 10 years away I'm going back to school at the end of the month. I'm really looking forward to it, while dreading being the old guy in every class at the same time.

Anyone gone through this and have some advice?

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

What are you going back for Zane? You might not be the oldest guy there. I went back after seven years away, but it was for my Masters so the class age was pretty much across the board.

Hello, I must be going. I cannot stay, I came to say I must be going. I'm glad I came but just the same I must be going.

Pretty much from the beginning. I left college for the military after my second semester... and I don't have too many credits from those 2 terms.

I will officially be the old guy.

I wouldn't worry unless you're going to one of those "hip, young" colleges/universities (aka the ones that have reputations for being party colleges). For the most part, you can get your BS/MS/etc with a good mix of people in different age groups so long as you aren't attendinga party college.

What Taln said.

Of course, if you do end up at a party college, you can always put your Smuggling skills to practise as being "The Guy Who Can Get Anything"

I'm not really that worried about it... really just looking for funny stories at this point.

As for the partying... well I'm married so I don't think I'll be going to too many parties.

Just from walking around campus a little I've decided that it's very, VERY wrong for a married guy to go to college... gotta get that degree somehow though.

I ended up taking a couple years off before my last year. I had a blast being the 'older' guy. Became friends with many profs and TAs -- especially the graduate assistants, since I was closer to their age. Ended up having more fun that year than the first three.

Enjoy it!

[edit] Amusing anicdote: was having a smoke after class with one of my profs half-way through the year and he told me he thought I'd be trouble the first day of classand decided that he was right.

It's ok zane, in my 4 years, the college girls always told me that they either had a boyfriend,a girlfriend,a husband,or a wife. Or some combination thereof. And the few I managed to catch without boyfriends/etc told me they weren't interested under any circumstances.

So.. you're not missing much.

You should have hung out with my crowd the first time around then.

Seriously, of the 8 or so people that I ran with back then, a whopping 2 of us stayed past freshman year. I'm definitely going back more focused.

LOL! I meant thinks like kegs of beer! But now that you mention it, perhaps a pair of blinders might be a good purchase to get you through to late fall when the coeds start bundling up again.
