I don't know if this has been brought up at all, (I seem to start more than my share of posts with that
) but I was thinking.
Smuggler's are by there very nature, lucky. A successful smuggler is a lucky smuggler.
We get a high chance to evade ST scans as smugs. Whoop dee doo. I avoided losing 400 creds.
My proposal is that for any game mechanic that involves chance, Smugglers have better luck. The more smuggler boxes you have, the luckier you are. Loot items, Lugjack machines, even (to a much lesser extent) player skill mods related to chance. Now there's a skill that would A. make smugglers feel more like smugglers, and B. when *prays* nonsolo groups come back, people will want to have a smuggler in the group.

wait, I just thought of this. FS luck, but Jedi's don't believe in luck. Or at least Obi-wan didn't... HMMMMMM something's fishy...

As far as smugglers (i.e. slice and spice) FS Luck does not help.

I know but as a long time smuggler I obviously like to grasp at straws.

It's been suggested and included in the community devised revamp documents; whether it's one of our features included come the revamp is anyone's guess

Us smugglers are the most loyal players, yet as soon as we get some love you know people will just start to whine that we got to powerful all the sudden.

This game has really, really made it impossible for me to like jedi in any fashion in this game. I abhor having to become force sensitive to get something that should inherently belong to a smuggler. FS luck for a jedi to have the possibility of finding money on a corpse? Once again we keep getting hit with that 'alternate reality' Star Wars paddle.

I'm not interested in being a jedi, but wouldn't mind some luck since it seems to me to be a smuggler trait, so I did the quest and unlocked it...now I'm faced with the reality of how nearly impossible it is for smugglers to level this through slicing. On the face of it, you'd think smugglers would be alright because slicing translates at 3 to 1, which is very good, but here is another example of where the devs, not people who really play smuggler, go wrong. Here is the breakdown.
Smuggler
175000 FS Exp X 3 = 525,000 slicing exp divided by 250 exp/per slice = 2,100 slices
250000 FS Exp X 3 = 750,000 slicing exp divided by 250 exp/per slice = 3,000 slices
350000 FS Exp X 3 = 1,050,000 slicing exp divided by 250 exp/per slice = 4,200 slices
450000 FS Exp X 3 = 1,350,000 slicing exp divided by 250 exp/per slice = 5,400 slices
= 14,700 slices
(Just for fun, I'm going to assume the average time to slice a survival knife is 30 to 60 seconds or a slice a minute. Assuming 1440 minutes in a day (60m times 24h = 1440) it will take you 10.208333 days to level one tree from slicing...now since you can't macro and have to actually be at your computer, it will take longer...lets assume 8 hours a day playtime. You can do 60 slices an hour, lets say, which means 245 hours to do 14700 slices, and we're looking at roughly 30 days of nothing but slicing 8 hours a day.)
So to level one tree through slicing, you will have to make almost 15,000 slices, and that's an mind numbing number of clicks and trades. Sure, I'm a smuggler and prone to bemoan my lot in life, but consider some of the other forms of exp other professions can use to get a tree such as luck (which I might argue is a trait that should be smuggler friendly).
Dancers, Entertainers, Medical, Merchant, Musician can all max their exp afk, while we click and drag...I played a novice Creature Handlers once, so I know they can grind pretty easily, though not as much as the former. I must confess, I know nothing about ID's, but I've done scout and artisan and know there are relatively easy ways to grind Scout, Survival,
Trapping and Surveying.
I don't offer this as a complaint, per se, but as, hopefully, another example to educate the devs, should they read this post, on how things often play out for us. I imagine this decision was made on the face of things, without realizing how it is implemented. For while the breakdowns might seem fair, when one actually looks at how smugglers gain slicing exp, especially in light of the autopull nerf, you can see how disadvantaged smugglers are. For example, even if slicing exchanged 1 to 1, you would need to do 4,900 slices. Any one who has sliced will cringe at this number. Now compare this to a dancer who can just afk until they cap, or a medic who goes afk healing tumblers in the med center or any of the other professions who have at least one way of grinding exp that can be macroed.
It just ain't right.
For crying out loud, persuasion and luck IMHO are so very smuggler, we shouldn't be the most disadvantaged class to get it? At the very least, they should completely take macros away to level the playing field. Or maybe let us trade faction for fs exp, why not let us buy ourselves a little luck or persuasion?
Now, I kind of through this altogether and my math might be wrong, so please excuse my inadvertant errors, but I think in whole the point is valid. And, of course, people might be able to speed through a slice quicker than a minute, for a short period of time, but not for an eight hour stint. My assumption of a minute for the slice takes into consideration such things as eating, going to the lavatory, answering the occasional phonecall from your family and friends who've wondered what happened to you.

How fast we can convert XP is a concern I know many of us have. We are extremely limited in how fast our profession can convert xp. While I consider it a victory that we managed to get them to place slicing xp in senses to begin with, it's still a massive pain in the ass.
On a side note, in a moment of weakness, compelled by some strange amount of stupidity. I picked up luck today. Right after that I thought I'd try to open up my persuasion tree and once again remembered I have to have master medic in order to do so.
No way in hell I'm going to do that again. Now I have 4 skill points gone till the devs either wise up and let us surrender it as it is, I decide to completely destroy my current build and make this character some jedi wannabe or pray for something else to happen. I couldn't go triple master anymore even if I wanted to.
/curses and fumes and resolves not to play on no sleep ever again.

You can't surrender FS skills? I thought Jedi could as long as they always have their requirement met (like, grind another tree and surrender one they have, I saw something about that on the Jedi forum), so why can't non Jedi surrender FS skills?
I am missing something here.
