Ok, my guild has taken down 12 imperial bases in three weeks now and most of the time my alt char Linc does the slice of the security terminal. It works just like anything else. Use the "slice" option on the radial menu, shunt it with a clamp, then cut the color wire it tells you. I never fail on anything using clamps, but last night when I cut the blue wire like it told me it said I was unsuccessful and when I went to try it again it said the terminal was damaged and I was repairing it. Any other slicer to access it got a message that they could not slice it because Linc was repairing it. So at this point I figure it takes a few minutes to reset. We sit. Wait, wait, wait. 15 minutes goes by and if I click on it I get same message. Thinking perhaps I am bugged I duel one of the guys, take the DB, then get a doctor to rezz me. Still no luck. Then I try logging out and back in no dice.
Now here is the question - has ANYONE ever failed on one of these and if so how long did it take to reset?

Actually the first time I sliced a Security Terminal in an Imperial Base I got the message that I failed. I'm thinking that the clamp isn't wrong, there's just the chance of failing on a base because until you deactiviate the security terminal, there are "safeguards" in the base. For me it only took 2 mins to repair. I guess that is also by chance.

Hmm interesting. What did you do to repair it? I checked the terminal over and over and it said I was repairing it.

This has also happened to me a couple of times. Even if you use a clamp and cut the wires in the appropriate order it appears that there is still a chance that you can fail.
When it fails, all I do it go back to the radial menu and select therepair option. You do not have to do anything other then select repair on the radial menu. The repair is automatic and it will message you once it is repaired. You can not attempt to slice it again until the repair has been successful.
The repairs have never taken longer then a few minutes.

I've had this happen too. What you need to do is pay attention to the positive or negative. It's backwards sometimes. Disregard the color it tells you.

There is a bug and the repair spam gets caught in a loop. To fix it quickly have a teamate kill you via duel and do not rez until after another slicer has started slicing the terminal.

I just started slicing and I would like to know if there is a sequence of steps I need to follow to slice a base security terminal? I have the knifes, I have clamps, is there other item I need to do the slice?
When I start the slice is there anything I should be looking for that will reduce the risk of failing and having to repair the terminal, which at this time seems to be bugged. I keep getting a message that I am repairing the terminal and it never repairs. I have tried logging out and back in, I have had a fellow group member kill me and then wait to be rezes until another group member trys to slice the terminal (has not worked so far)

Griggs, what happens is what Kana said.
You have to ignore the color, sometimes it gets the wrong color on those terminals. And you will see that the color and polarity it mentions are sometimes miss matched.
Stick with the positive and negative and you will be ok.
Only happens on those terminals that I have seen.

Yep this is exactly right, disregard the colour, and just slice the polarity. sometimes (about 25% i believe) the colours and the polarity wont match. Go on polarity and you shouldnt go wrong.

necros are fun but i'll add something semi useful anyways
my guild has a base blower...a character with just the minimum of each profession required to single handedly blow a base
he fails at slicing the terminal at least 1/3 of the time some days. (slicing 1 i believe)
my master smuggler has never failed... yay possible master bonus
