Thread: the role of a smuggler at the village

Yesterday, to my big surprise i got a visit from the old guy, and after a small sipute with some sith guys some hours later i was off to the village. I'm not one of those people who want a jedi at all costs, all i want is my second character and some nice force skills while i was at it.
After i arrived at the village, very confused about what do do and how all of it worked, i slowly started to understand how all of it worked and realized something terrible.....

See, i'm a master smuggler for life (playing for about 3 months now, 2 of those as master smuggler), i love this profession and i told myself and others multiple times that i would never, ever drop smuggler.
Only problem is that in able to get the skills that i want, and that i think would fit a smuggler perfectly(luck and persuasion), i need to be at least master medic to unlock the trees
Somehow this just doesnt feel right, that village sure could use the services of a master smuggler in their time of need, but it looks like they havent thought of that themselves yet...

Cooking up a batch of special spice for them to strengthen their defenses in time of need, slicing weapons and armor, going out and negotiate with someone and convince him/her to assist the village... There are a lot of possibilities here, and im sure the devs could come up with some that are a lot better then the little ideas i posted here.

At the moment i decided to focus on the combat skills for the first 4 phases. After those are done and phase 1 starts over again, i think i'm going to drop most of my combat skills, get myself master medic and start working on the skills i really want, but can't get at the moment because smugglers were left out in the cold...
Anyways, i still have a small sparkle of hope that they will give us smugglers a role to play in the village when phase 1 starts over again, and if not, i'll have to take up those boring medic skills again (i can survive perfectly with my emergency hit of spice and feign death so no need for any healing skills, i'm a smuggler, i like to live on the edge hehe)
So, what do you, my fellow smugglers think of our role at the village? Please discuss and remember kids... JUST SAY NO TO JEDI

I too only want the secondary character slot, I just hope I can surrender any Jedi skills I take up after I get it. I guess I can, it's like any other skill, right?

I may make my secondary a Jedi at some time in the future, who knows. It's too bad the Devs keep leaving us out in the cold on such things, like Force Sensitivity and our revamp

I don't even do it for the second slot, the only reason I try to get glowing nowis that ranged speed that my pistols need so badly... However, I have heard that these skills would be permanent, but this information is not confirmed, so I guess we will have to wait till someone shows up who has actually tried it.

I thought our roll at the village was to sit in front of the Village Elder and spam "Slicing Weapons and Armor...100% Success Rate....Only 5 Credits Per % Increase!!!!"

the only reason why I want to be glowy is that whenever someone around me goes "I'm all glowy!" I can say "yah, well I'm glowy too. Oh I can also slice my own stuff

Just kidding. I'm not really sure if I really want to pursue the jedi thing. If I do it'll all be roleplaying, since I roleplay every character I have. Of course the whole reason why I got smuggler in the first place was to roleplay space pirate. You can't do that a lot in other games. (ARRRGGH!)

I know what you mean. I picked up master scout to help out my be friend. The only thing I can use scouting xp for is the heightened senses line but I have to be master medic to unlock any of those... /sigh I just want my second toon slot so I can use my laser knives again.

I'm in the same situation as you, and was disappointed too because of the luck / persuasion. Really thought it would be open to smugglers..!

Perhaps our correspondent Caylin could have them OPEN this for us! That would be to give some smuggler lurve..

What frustrates me is that the xp grind to get the FS trees now leaves even Masters (and this doesn't only apply to Smugglers, of course) crawling around like newbie nuna-killers desperately scrabbling for dirty xp. To see a Master Smuggler (you knowwho you are..)/yelling "Free Slices!" turns my stomach.

The xp grind has removed all hint of dignity and pride from being a Master, and seems to be wrecking the game.

What your all forgetting is that the dev team cant even spell the word smuggler, let alone know what one is,or heaven forbid actually throw a bit of content our way

I too am a Smuggler for life...

Not a lot of slicing requests in the village and the docs there are buffing so not many want spices.

Now I also have Master Medic and I can tell you that you can NOT do the Persuassion quest with Master Medic alone...at least I sure couldn't.

Some of the cures require experimented values in the 90+ percentage range and I have never got past 70% with near perfect resources. I had to rely on a Master Doc to make some of my treatments for ALL five patients. I haven't done more than was necessary to unlock the branch either...just too much required from another person for my taste as I don't like to hound people for help.

This is one aspect I'd really like to see changed.

Little hint... It's too expensive in time, credits and travel to slice for conversion to force exp IMO. Instead I sample for survey exp. The conversion rate isn't asgood but you can run outside the village into the fog and sample away AFK then run back and convert. I personally much prefer this to slicing for free and having to run back to my factory to make new clamps and knives and buy more WUKs and AUKs...hell, if I'm going to grind I'm sure not going to pay in AND out of game to do it.

afaik persuasion doesnt actualy do anything. and nobody really knows exactly how luck works (its believed taht when uyou loot credits you loot more credits with higher luck seems to be what most people think)

It's not just our profession that is having these problems. Many of the correspondents want alternative ways to these missions as they are severely gated. Anyone who isn't a medic is in the lurch here, not just smugglers.

So it's certainly being talked about
