Now that credits are going to be tighter around the galaxy I was wondering what everyone was going to do about slicing prices? I've read a lot of posts on how Docs should lower buff prices, and wealthy shipwrights and weaponsmiths should lower prices... And frankly I just don't know.
It is pointless to argue the validity of nerfing Solo Groups as it is a done deal, it is more prudent to focus on our response to said Nerf. Are you guys going to adjust prices? Are you going to keep them the same? The economy will be shifting over the next few weeks and I don't know how to adjust myself.
For those of you in my boat (didn't save a credit and now broke as hell) what are you going to do to earn money now? Hunting seems almost pointless. Without Scout to harvest resources it isn't really worth the time. I'm afraid that slicing will now be my main source of income. Not too excited about that being that I've pretty much stopped slicing for the public. I think it is time I rethink that.

Very good question, my income has gone down considerably since JTL came out and i'm almost to the point of not slicing for the public anymore. The WS i regulaly slice for is not doning as much business as he used too, and my supply sales are still doing ok though not as much as before JTL. About the only real thing i can think of would be to do high end mobs for the loot, but with money getting tighter who knows if this is a good option.

I know this isn't a "true" economy, but it is close enough that I think we'll get some "invisible hand" intervention, and things will settle at a new equilibrium. Folks will have less income -> less spending -> able to pay less for goods and services (low demand)-> high surplus -> prices go down to move stock.
I don't think the economy is actuallygoing to suffer quite as bad as most folks seem to think, but that's just my opinion. In terms of slicing,.. well like everything else, we'll just have to see how much other prices fluctuate across the boards and see what folks are willing to pay vs. what is enough to be worth our time.

But in the meantime...anyone goin to change their slicing prices?
My plan is to follow the example set by the smuggler community.

As an ex-smuggler that may come back if the devs give ya'll some love I suggest not changing your already low prices for slicing.

as for me, i don't mind staying at 10k per lice, whether they can afford it or not, slicing is a definitive improvement of an item, if people don't want to pay this price, they won't have my services and get their gear sliced by someone else, that's the only valuable skill we have, no way we give it up.
On a side note, it could at least bring slicing to something extraordianry and not the normality it is right now.

The economy may change, but my time is still my time andI will continue to charge at 7k per slice. If slices become less common that's no skin of my back. I would bet that things aren't going to change that much. Even without a solo group, one could get buffed and go to Yavin and take missions which more than paid for the buffs. People are still going to want to PvP and will pay for any edge they can get.

As someone who's been around this game a long time, I can attest to the fact that people will continue to find ways to make lots of credits in a short amount of time.
It may take a while and some experimenting, but it WILL happen. And when that well dries up, they'll find another one to tap. It's human nature.
So...NO...I will not be changing my 10k per slice pricing.

Ditto that...

Well, to me even in the credit-rich era of solo groups, slicing wasn't worth the hassle. To me at the "going rate" of 5k/slice it wasn't worth the effort then, and it certainly won't be worth the hassle when credits start being drained from the economy. Dropping slicing prices? heh, more power to you. Some people have no regard for their time at all.

Did some economics in college... that sounds about right.
I'd expect that right now, as slicing can be sold for n% of the average weapon cost, as the average weapon cost decreases over time (demand drops vs. a fixed supply, so price drops) the viable charge for slicing will decrease. After all, in plain terms, who will pay 5k to have a 3k weapon sliced when their average income is 20k a week?
Anyway, it's all relative. And I'm a BH, so I'll still be making 20k a mission.
However, much love for the smugglers - hope you guys get some Dev-love soon. And by Dev-love I don't mean the nerf bat. ![]()

If you have JTL, you can earn 10k rather quickly by selling 10 looted Level 1 ship parts to the Chassis Dealer.

Since I'm never on the ground anymore, it's an inconvenience for me to travel to slice (if somebody manages to catch me it's because i've been on planet long enough to get out to the boondocks to try and find a decent shipwright vendor *something that's near impossible in Scylla, by the way*). As a previous poster mentioned, the same people who were grinding out solo grouped missions before will find another way to make credits.
In charging 10k flat per slice I was getting business from the people who would drop a few hundred thousand on a set of composite on a whim and it was by far making up for the volume lostfrom the general (idiot) public. My target audience is still intact, so my prices will stay the same. 10k for life!
I can also justify this by pointing at the fact that the big boom in smugglers a lot of people expected with launch of JTL never really came. There are many times I can do a quick browse at the people flying "master smuggler" in coronet and be an army of one.
