smugglers will be able to slice ship parts and be able to do drug runs from planet to planet and I'm sure they will install something like DUI checkpoints (maybe at a space station)in space to check for sliced and spiced cargo (depending on your faction.)
this will make smuggler alot of fun but the bad news might be that everyone will run around in YT-1300's just to keep cargo and orders. (be cool to use the underground compartments)
I swear you guys will get so much in JTL it won't be funny other professions will be jealous.

*AHEM*
Uh, nice post Boreback- but you will have to excuse the amount of skepticism you will no doubt receive.
We've become a "believe it when we see it" bunch of players (kind of ironic when you think aobut our chosen profession) due to the frustration built up over almost a year of anticipation for needed changes, especially when it comes to ACTUAL smuggling.
Also, MANY of us feel we shouldn't have to buy JTL in order to have a complete profession that is viable to the game.
So when you say something like "You will get some love upon JTL" you are really picking at old wounds.
BIG, old wounds.
If you are posting to pat us on the back to help us get through our wait for a revamp (probably Christmas) then thanks-
If you know something we don't then please share it.

Ok heres the lowdown wuth Smugglers in JTL.
I read in some of the IGN interviews and they asked about smugglers in space whoever it was (cinco barnes i think) he/she said that ship parts will be sliceable making the crappy ships a lil more rocking than usual.
lets saySenior Bob here got a crappyship with crappy parts, now the shipwrights are chargin way to much for new turrets/engine/shields/hulletc. SeniorBob is really mad and low on cash,
this is where you come in.
Senior bob meets this smuggler guy named Jim and they start talking andJim sayssince ships came out we can slice ship parts. Bob is overwhelmed with joy so he disables his ship and pulls out every part and gets Jim to slice it. Jim sees bob so overwhelmed with happiness that he does it cheap and easy. Bob is so happy that he installsthe parts into his ship and is all happy and joyful that bob is flying in outer space with better equipment on his ship.
thats how smugglers will act when JTL comes out.
now in futureadd-ons, space stations should be dockable so you might be able to transport spices and sliced items a better way.
I remember being on the public boards when beta was out and wannabe smugglers complained about how they would suck without space and i see you guys here doing the same thing completely opposite though.
you guys will get a big touch up when JTL comes out.
I'm also sure that there will be imperial blockades (making it harder to be a smuggler)in the future and Playar capitol ships in future add-ons too just have to be patient thats all
when JTL comes out everyone will be jealous of you guys.

Well you can be as sure as you want about the Imperial blockades...but I ain't seein' it. Besides, right now why would I want to run spice? Who am I gonna sell it to? No one's buying. The spices have to get revamped. And smuggling on the ground should be the same as smuggling in space, though I long thought it would probably be easier to form choke points in space since we don't actually land or pick where we land.
That being said, all a smuggler would have to do is become a high ranking imperial and they'll automatically leave him alone. No scanning whatsoever. I can extrapolate that because that's how the system works now and I doubt they'll not just port it over. So that won't matter anyway.
As for ship part slicing. Yippee. I get to slice a whole bunch of ship parts. That's what smuggling's all about
Seriously, I'm not seeing it. I want a dev to say it. And I want to smuggle. Pure and simple.

I was wondering about the source of the bubbly enthusiasm. Then I noticed his PA.

Might doesn't cut it. That's the thing. Spices HAVE to get fixed. MUST. And so far I've seen nothing in the JTL which says my life will get more interesting. There are 4 new professions. Three pilots that will be identical save their certifications (or so I'm guessing) and a shipwright. That's all we know for certain. None of that sounds like it's going to be MORE fun for us. "Ooo we get ships now." Yeah, we get ships to not smuggle. Because without a meaningful contraband system, which we don't have now, and I've heard no plans for in the future, it doesn't matter. Might and maybe have a very annoying track record around here of becoming no and half assed.

Strange.......CHEAP? thats what we are right now so i dont see how that will be much of a profit. As a matter of fact im tired of getting ripped off when i spend my valuable time slicing 2 suits and 5 weapons for 5k a piece. I say we go all out hardcore and start charging 10k per item, then we'll ee how often people want full suits sliced and 10 guns sliced.
