Thread: Need to reinvent my Smuggler
Been a smuggler on my main account for a long long time. Some of you may recognize the forums handle, most probably won't. I haven' posted in here with much frequency of late, probably partially due to the following.
I just haven't had much direction with my Smuggler lately. Nathan's a rebel colonel, I've got him to 3/3/3/3 Freelance Pilot.
For the majority of the 2 years this game has been out I was a triple master, you know, the good old tried and true template. I loved it. Always.
When CU hit, I was devestated that I couldn't keep the triple mastery. I gave up TK because I told myself I'd never release Smuggler and I had invested far too many credits in my guns to give up pistoleer.
After spending the respec period fiddling with carbineer, some melee profs, rifles, doc, CM, BH and other various templates complimenting my Master Pistols/Master Smuggler professions, I ended up taking 0/0/0/4 Merchant (still have the token respec on him if I want to use it). Spices are useful once again, and I felt like I could make some profit from it once more.
But I've had no drive to login to this character. I unlocked 1 tree of FS skills, but haven't even ground out the entire branch yet. This character will always be a Smuggler, he was my original in the game. I have another full template Jedi I play anyway.
I don't really know where I'm going with this. I don't know if this is a question, a rant or what. Do you folks feel this way sometimes? Like you LOVE the profession and will never give it up, but just run out of motivation for it? grrr
I think I've just been so frustrated with the nerfs and the broken systems/promises and the flat out lies revolving around Smuggler.
Help me guys, give me direction for this character!!!!

Best thing I can suggest, and heretical as it may be, try just ditching the game as a whole for a couple of weeks.
Try playing something else, or just take a break in general. It helped give me some perspective, and now I'm back playing.
Also, from playing some other games (I play Guild Wars as well) it did actually help me see some of the positive aspects of the game.
I'd also recommend getting that Master Pilot if you can. I spend most of my time in space now, have a cool collection of ships, and I always seem to have a goal - if it's not to get that elusive Black Sun Helmet, it's to get some of the new high end slicing drops.
It's a hard choice to make, I know. Smuggler takes a lot of skill points and does limit your choices. But if you've been with it this long, chances are you're gonna stay for good.
Hope that helps.
Keep Smuggler. Go TKA. RP hanging around in Cantinas all over the Galaxy, getting hammered on Jawa Beer. Start barroom brawls (ie. /duel a lot). Who cares if you lose more than you win. Live a life of notority and chaos.
Above all, have fun.
Because...at the end of it all, what is a game all about? It's about enjoying your time online. As soon as a game becomes all about grinding and credits, it goes from Gaming to Working. And I do enough of that.
Thats all I got.

I just wish the Devs would reinvent the Smuggler profession into something that actually Smuggles!

Put on a show for the newbies in Mos Eisley. Grab a friend and RP out a spice deal gone bad, or better yet, if you know some folks with the full ST armor getup, have them try and bust you. You might also consider starting a bad ass swoop gang and do runs through the various cities for s & g's.
If that don't work, step away for a bit. Helps clear the noggin and I'm sure you won't bee missing any new Smuggler content if you take a month or a year or so off.
