Thread: ++above cap slicing got nerfed++

I just tried slicing a 379-938 DL44 XT for 2% damage (effectively raising it to 956 damage) and got the "The weapon has already surpassed it's maximum power output and can not be sliced" message!


FYI, the hard cap on crafting for DL44XTs is 948 damage.


This is crap. I thought we were getting the ability to raise just above caps.


Sigh.. oh well.. if this is working as intended, why not just let any slice that would raise an attribute of an item above a preset maximum make that attribute EQUAL to it's cap?

I hear that. Admittingly, the gun was made pre-19, though. I'm still wondering if maybe newly crafted post-19 guns are any different.


Somehow, I doubt it.

I had a Scatter custom made with 178 tissues, 948 max damage, and a 2% damage slice will put it over the cap.


So, are we doomed to have everyone running around with Equal weapons? SoE should make us just all wear the same armor, and look the same too. That would be fun..

So, let me see if I have this straight:


The people who have the ability to get the highest level slicing items can just as easily get the weapon upgrade components, so many if not all of them will have a capped weapon straight from the weaponsmith. Since these cannot be sliced, their ability to ALSO get the high level slicing items is moot.


The people without the ability to get the high level slicing items also cannot get krayt tissues and the like (since they all drop from the same mobs). So not only can they not have capped weapons constructed, but they cannot get the weapons they do have sliced to the highest level.



We, as smugglers, cannot reasonably charge very much money to slice a weapon if no tool or resource is expended in the process. The only slices we'll be doing with any regularity are the ones which require no tool or resource, since anything beyond that is out of the reach of the only people who can actually use it. A new player will not have access to a delicate trigger assembly, even though his mass produced D-18 is the only weapon where it would do any good.


Meaning we, as smugglers, basically have ZERO business opportunities in slicing. Meaning we have basically ZERO incentive to even bother trying to get these slicing tools. Meaning we can effectively put slicing in the same category as spices and just ignore it almost completely.

I feel for you smugglers. As a pistoleer I am upset. I was looking forward to getting my DE-10 sliced to get some damage since i was at cap. What a load.... really. Rifles are still ahead of us, so I don't see what the issue was with giving us some extra damage potential. After all this is "slicing"... modifying a gun beyond its normal limits. They don't even offer a SAC slice. I really don't know what I would go to a smuggler for now. My speed is already capped with my mods, and the crit chance is so little, its not really worth it. I would like to hear if the cap was intentional... which it probably was. Frustration doesn't even come close. You all have my sympathy. Course not that many people take pistoleer for anyting but stopping shot so it probably won't affect your income that pistoleers won't need you as much, just sad that once again, pistols get shafted.

I don't understand what is the complaint here. The game has hard caps, slicing should not be able to break the hard damage caps. Caps are put in for balance. Now a slice should bring the weapon to the cap but not over.


A near damage capped weapon can still be sliced for speed or critical hit chance, which will still make the weapon better than it was.
