We seem to have a one star troll in this forum today, I've seen his droppings in a few threads.

An optimist! Awesome!!

I see this is a watered down version of the your GCW post that got deleted - Language young man!!

Really can't add more than Laughing Wolf or Yimaz said earlier - they nailed a couple of the important issues, not least of which being - no point getting worked up at this early stage. If we have concerns we can express them, and hope that Wes will pass on the concerns - other than that it's totally out of our hands.

My only suggestion is to take a break for a day or so and do non-SWG things! After getting the information overload yesterday I made a point not to logging on and am now calm, cool, and nowhere near collected - but getting close!

Also - I'm going on a anti-1-star-ninja quest! People's posts should be 1 starred for their content - NOT because of the poster.

I really think there isn't enough information out there that's concrete to see what kind of an impact this change will have. I like parts of it on the surface, I dislike parts of it on the surface. I think we need to get some people testing it out and get their feedback before we start stating things like "its the end of the smuggler profession".

Sit back, relax, grab a cold beverage and just wait and see, man. That's all you can do. You might just be surprised.

What I have gathered from these threads were it was pretty cast in stone. So unless anyone makes a real fuss it will slip right through TC.

Personally my biggest gripe is the entire TEF system. Which pretty much says there will be no more large group battles. Nomatter how long the curb is able to stretch out pvp. I want the large pvp battles back. Infact this was the only time that I actually recall looking under hill and over dale for a smuggler.

Let me tell you the story. My first player city. Hardcore rebel. We spent hundreds of thousands of faction points on four faction bases. All for the express purpose of haveing huge faction battles. The imperials would form up a small army and have at us. They would come storming in 50+ players strong, and each side would go at it. People dieing left and right and going right back at it. Eventually one side would get exhausted and pull back lick its wounds and go right back at it. Needless to say these pitched battles would last for hours, and the next day the local smugglers had big freaking orders to fill. For replacement turrets replacement faction pets replacement bases even.

Unfortunately from the tef notes I can see that pvp battles will be done and over with and that to me is what starwars is all about. I care less about a meta war then the actual accomplishment from a long protacted battle where one side wins and the other side loses, but both sides know they aquited themselves well.

I don't see how this is going to bring an end to PvP. Those who like to PvP do it, those who don't, don't and those in the middle dabble from time to time. I would imagine the same will be true with the new system. Except now those who don't Pvp, which must be a pretty large group for SOE to make this change, will be able to battle in the war without worring about some l337 Pvper swooping in and spoiling the fun. I'm a dabbler myself, I enjoy a little Pvp every now and then, my nephew doesn't, it freaks him out thinking that there is a real person behind the toon that was just killed.

I also don't believe this will be the end of Smuggler, if anything now we'll get a whole lot more faction customers. The PvE player has money to.

Well, I don't think farming will be happening on the ground nearly as much, because TH DID say that the defenders inside the bases would be a lot stronger. So theoretically, you could still farm the outside troops, but I don't think nearly as easily as before, because I think he might've mentioned that the outside defenders would get a power boost as well, can't remember that point, and I don't want to go look

TH also said that this would be loaded on TC in a few weeks-ish, which tells me that they still have a decent amount of development before they decide on definites. The nice thing about all this is that TH & SOE are letting us know something way in advance. Even if this hits TC in 3 weeks, and then goes live in 4-5 weeks, that's prety decent notice, and I'm sure they are paying attention to at least some of the more sober comments (ie those not full of Fire and Brimstone) I'm excited about this, and the Meta-Game seems interesting. I haven't PvP'd for a while now, and this might be the thing to rekindle it. And I'm all for the "on Leave" status, because you won't see gank squads roaming around, sure someone can go overt (PvP-Enabled) in an instant, they don't go re-covert in a few minutes like before. Now there won't be one guy overt followed around by a bunch of coverts waiting to take on those 1 or 2 overts that are just loading into a starport. Sure, this tactic will still work, but it's not as slippery as before, and the healing aspects are very nice. A M Doc friend of mine is happy with the new buff/trading rules about the lack of TEFs and no more getting booted out of cantina's for healing or buffing an overt.

Even if you're not happy about these changes, wait til after the CURB to decide on how you judge them. I have a feeling theat the 2 will mesh quite well. Also, this isn't the GCW revamp, that is happening after ours and the non-combatants.

ana-mo-cara:

About big battles..... what about PvP bases?

PvP bases:

1- everyone must be PvP Enabled to enter. (so defendable!)
2- A challenge, with hard to kill NPCs.
3- Worth way more than PvE base in the whole meta game planet control thing.

All that, specially 3, would mean I think you will see MORE big PvP fights because now taking down a base will matter, and not only for faction farming.

Sure, with that system peoples who don't want to PvP won't. But I think more interest in the GCW, with planet control and all, will mean there will be more interest in PvP. So more chance of bigger battles.

Just to clarify: he said that the PVP NPC defenders would be a lot stronger. Nothing about the strenght of PvE bases NPC defenders.

The thing people are missing. If you die pvp enabled. You have to wait five minutes to re enable pvp status. That means base defenses will be near impossible if the other side outnumbers you even marginally. In other words one combat medic poisons the defenders, and its all over the enemy walks in and wastes the base unopposed.

The issue is the timer.

Five minutes is an eternity and it is reduced to a number game. Even if my side is outnumbered we deserve a snowballs chance in hell defending.

I am not against noobs being free from ganking as much as being forced into pvp disabled. If I die and clone I see no reason why I cannot have the choice to come back overt. Its not like I am even denying the other side an edge since they can clone overt aswell. For me its about enjoying the battle whether I come out ahead or not.

Something about the CU extending combat

Are you sure? Because from my standpoint, the biggest problem with PvP combat right now is that it takes SO MUCH TIME to kill someone (unless you're a rifelman/CM or Jedi *mutters*). I mean, between 80% armor and 00ber buffs, people just don't die quickly enough from some good old fashioned blaster shots.
