Thread: Fair price for a Rebel Smuggler selling FPs

Fellow Smugglers, I need a bit of advice.
A good two months ago, a guy sent me a tell, asking me if I can sell Rebel faction points. I was Master Sergeant at the time I think, so I told him "I could but right now that would be insanely costly, better look for a Colonel Master Smuggler". So the guy ask me to tell him when I become Colonel, that he will have a lot of job for me to do, etc. So sure, I add him to my friend list, with a "potential client, to email when I get Colonel" personal note.
Last week, I finally reached Colonel. So I send an email to the guy, reminding him of our conversation and that if he still need my services, I am Colonel now. He answered with a thank you very much for remembering me, and ask what my price is.
I did searched this forum for prices idea, and from what I saw the lowest end of the range seem to be around 115 cr per FP. Feeling generous since he would be my first FP client, I tell him that I will do it for 110 cr/FP. Then I ask him if he have an idea how many he will need.
The day after I get two email from him in reply. The first say that he don't know how many he will need but that he have several friends who need FPs too. Then the second email, saying simply "yure prices are high".
I sent an email explaining how buying FPs work, all the while apologising if I was explaining something he already knew. I noted that the cost including the delegate ratio is 85.5 cr per FP (73cr + the 18% of delegate at Colonel rank), and that at 110 cr per FP the profit margin is way lower than many profession masters make for selling their services. Then I ask him , by curiosity, what he think would be an honest price. Part of me expect him to answer something that will be below cost, but we will see. I still didn't got an answer.
But he did seeded a doubt in me. Is my math right? Am I being a thief here, charging 110 cr per FD? or charging foolishly low?
I saw a few Smugglers with their FP selling fees in their sig, but all thoses I saw are Imperials, so it is not the same thing. So since I found precious little info by doing a search and what I did found was by Imps, I figured I would ask advice.

I charge 150C/FP, and people pay. Well not that I got mayn customers these days anyway. (and i make most of them in space)
Should I feel guilty for being too greedy? Nope, aint gonna happen.
Your customer seem to had some deals with the pilots that sell some FPs for 80C/FP. We can't compete with that, but we can buy out the Pilots, and still make profit.

I doubt he have any deal with anyone, or he would not still be needing FPs two months later.
But you do have a point, about pilots.

My Smuggler is a Rebel, I charge less for friends though.
But people who I don't know at all have to pay the full price.... in advance.

If I were Rebel, I'd probably be selling points for 120c/FP. So, your 115 was pretty much in line.
Back in my days on Bria, with Caylin and Signosis, we were all selling Rebel FP at 100c/FP. A 10k FP deal yeilded a mere 144k profit. But, inflation...and the sheer fact that my time has become worth more to me dictate the price going up. Now, as an Imperial, a 10k FP deal yeilds a nice 450k profit.

25-35% profit margin is respectable income. I wouldn't go below it, especially for the chunk of time it takes out of your play-time (tho this excuse will only last for so long).

Rebel and Imperial, I charge 150-200 per point...always remember, your time has value.
Others undersell, but it is their loss...grinding FP (grinding being pointing and clicking the recruiter) is NOT FUN.

My price list for Rebel faction on Kauri:
- Normally 130cr per FP
- "On Sale" for 120cr per FP (when I advertsie in the trade forum - usually when I need some cash)
- Orders over 10K faction I charge 110cr per FP
- For guildies and friends I charge 110cr per FP, or 100cr per FP if I am advertising at the time
I sell most of my faction at the 120cr per FP price (because of advertising), but occasionally get the "out-og-the-blue" request.

so at 110 cr per FP to a pure stranger I actually was a tad low. And yet he treated me like I was trying to gouge his heart out or something. "grumble"
Ah well his lost. If he realise he can't find a MS to sell him faction for way lower he might come back to me. Of course, true Smuggler fashion, my price for him might have raised by then.
one lost, one found. Made a deal yesterday for 60k at 100 cr per FP (a friend of a big client so I was willing to give a discount). We are postponing the exchange until the patch goes life, for convenience sake.

One problem is that non-smugglers are just going overt into space for 3 hours to grind the 60k of faction. Once they do this they don't get anymore so they have to sell it. Now anything for this faction is a profit and I've seen people selling at 80c/fp and smugglers just can't compete with that uness they go into space themselves.

yeah I sell at 120 per unit
and like Dreven back in the day it was 100 cpu which if you do the math and take the time into considaration its not really worth it. getting buffed, going overt, standing by the computer for a long time while in a macro.
I also sell faction perks at 10% over the smuggler cost which I think is more than fair.
not too many people buying these days but my thought is if you're going to pay my prices then it is worth my time
