Thread: A bit of advice

Hey folks, I am a young smuggler, but my main account is a Droid Engineer. Let me share with you something I learned from being a DE that might help you folks.

The DE boards got really nasty as the devs jerked us around. Heck, DE was (maybe still is) as broken as any professon in the game. Finally, the devs just stopped showing up to our boards. We got zero feedback from then on any ideas we submitted, and that just pissed off people even more. Heck, our boards can still get nasty over this.

As hard as it can get, don't turn on the devs...at least publicly. Keep your boards civil and positive. If you need to vent, do it privately in game, or do it here so long as you keep it polite.

Devs still read our boards, but they never did feed us any info. They gave us all sorts of excuses, but what it came down to is that we turned into a lion's pit of nasty little buggers.

Don't get too bitter. It is good to be passonate, but don't get so nasty that the devs turn away from these boards.

I agree completely. As a software developer myself, I feel their pain. You know, sometimes it's hard as hell to track down a bug, or make what seems like a trivial change. Anddoes anyonereally think these guys don't care? That they take no pride in their work? Well, even if they don't care, I promise you that they have superiors who do.

I have felt this way for awhile. It seems to me that alot of players have a job that centers around computers (I don't) either software design ,or whatever. So this is why perhaps a little understanding should be in order.

Ordinarily I would agree, but since they haven't communicated anything with us to begin with, I don't see how we lose by getting vocal. Not to mention, they made this bed, they need to lie in it. Oh wait, they lie enough as it is...

can I get an amen?

When someone appologizes to you, you don't keep punishing them for their wrongs. When someone admits that they screwed up, its huge. Alot of people and companies would never do this. They usually find someone else to blame for their screw ups. What we see here are the devs admitting to a screw up and appologizing to us for it. Lets not be a bunch of negative nancies and keep harping on them for it. They know they screwed up. We don't have to keep reminding them. Lets move forward and take this to the next step.

I WANT to bea positive Smuggler again.

You can look back over my post history for the past year and find that I did not start out as the jaded cynic that stands before you now. At one point in time, I was one of the most positive, optimistic voices in this community.

However...I don't know exactly when it happened, but I stopped believing. I really do want to believe again. But the devs have to make that first step and give me something to believe IN. They've got a long way to go before they get me back on their side again.

Don't give me songs. Give me something to sing about.

If you want to be mad about it ,go ahead , if you want to protest in some way,go ahead. But the bottom line is , we wont see anything until after JTL. It is a game after all,and I know that we do PAY to play it and we like everyone else want them to fix, revamp or whatever ,out part.By "we" I mean every single player ,and by "our part" I do not mean smuggler only. But SOE has to look at the big picture ,which none of us has to. I also know that smugglers have gotten nothing but the short end of the stick sense launch. I have decided to just wait it out. I havecreated a character on test center so I will be ready to test our revamp when ever it gets here.

I am not going to tell you what you should or shouldn't do,everything expressed is just my opinon. I have also had a major attitude change in regards to this whole smuggler mess, ever just have a feeling about something? I have a feeling we are going to get a great revamp. If we don't oh well ,I guess we will cross that bridge when we get to it. But you can't please everyone, and some people arent happy unless they have something to b!tch about.

I simply disagree!

They have been jerking us around for a year! And the ONLY time we get anything accomplished is when we stand up and amke them notice!

Anybody remember the HORRIBLE revamp they almost gave us? Nuff said!!

Would you, as a responsible programmer, release a product like this for sale?

After releasing it for sale, whether forced or not, would you promote an Expansion before fixing the present bugs?

And honestly, as someone else who writes code from time to time, are you serious about some of these things not being simple fixes?

Seriously, how hard can it be to edit the text of the skillboxes to properly reflect the bonuses/drawbacks that actually exist? If it is blindingly difficult to make such a simple change, are we not in a lot more trouble than we thought? I agree, that something on the scale of the Combat Balance is going to take 100% of their time and effort, but c'mon. Who the hell was doing an EMOTE IMPROVEMENT when they could have been rewriting our skill tree, or figuring out how to make spice competetive?

Oh my you hit the nail on the head with that one. I would think they would want to get the bugs that they have now fixxed before they introduced more like they keep doing but then again anything to make them more money. That is the key money.

hmmmm asa gamedeveloper myself I can tell you that developers only do what they are asked for by project managers so if you have to tell someone about something tell the project managers. If you drive a nailin a wall and you bend it do you blame the hamer?

respect the devs they do a great job from my point of view.
