Well I just reread some of the smuggler revamp discussions kinda in the way people go visit clothes they have on lay away. Anyways, I noticed that among the good ideas represented, there is one that bugs me and obviously many others. And that is the Spice crafting portion of smuggler. People seem to argue that this makes the smuggler nothing more than a chemist/drug pusher, and I think that I have to agree.
So if we want to stay true to the smuggler title, then perhaps one of the following ideas would help keep spice in the game while at the same time keeping smugglers true to form.
1) Create another profession totally dedicated to crafting spice. This could perhaps be an alternative to the chef profession branching off from the artisan base. This crafter could create various forms of spice that can be customized to fit a customer's needs in effect modifying the stats that are desired with a proportional side effect. The catch would be that this crafter cannot post spice on a vendor or on the bazaar thus leading the crafter to sell it personally which leads to the smuggler's job. The crafter, in a need to move the spice, will have to carry large quantities of it at times. However, the larger the quantity, the larger the risk of being ambushed by the authorities. The smuggler offers the option (for a nominal fee) to carry this load of spice nearly risk free due to secret compartments, bribery, etc.
2) Create a mission system for various galactic gangsters such as Jabba (Themepark and mastering smuggler being a prerequisite to taking missions.) Some of these missions will require the smuggler to move contraband such as weapons, components, and spice from one place to another in the midst of various authority figures. While in the act of smuggling, the smuggler will have an opportunity "skim from the top"with a certain level of risk involved. Also, the smuggler has an option at the end of the mission to be paid in contraband or credits. The smuggler can then sell his illegally obtained spice to whomever he desires with a certain level of risk involved. This would in effect require the smuggler to actually smuggle in order to obtain his pay.

hum let me think:
idea 1=devs wont go for it,too much troubles for them to implement.
idea 2=really good thinkin,i really like the idea but (sory for the dev's we always have a but) there are no prof's that have content unless we count jedi and bh's,they can acess terminals and bh's can hunt jedi.
if they give smugglers any content most prof's are going to ask for that too,and that is too much work for the dev's but hehe i hope you get heard man.

Good ideas I have long advocated removing spice from our skil set.
As to a new prof to make it all I will say is if we don't want it why would anybody else?
spices are just plain sad compared to chef food bufs.
NPC mission contacts for smugglers put the source on adventure planets like Dathomir and Yavin4
with NPC deliver contacts on domestic planetes like Corellia and Naboo, we deliver (smuggle) the spice and players who are so
inclined can buy thier spice from NPCs
Since spice is all the same no mater the ingreidents or maker why not just have NPCs sell it...hell why not have it added into
Loot drops!?
IM A SMUGGLER NOT A CHEMIST I SHOULD BE SMUGGLING SPICE NOT MAKING IT!!
I feel this is a very easy thing to add for us its just a smuggler only deliver mission I'd even be happy if it was just that
and they left the more complicated risk vs reward smuggler missions till revamp.

One Idea i had was to call Buffs spice since they are by far more dangerous to the empire then any spice we made. Maybe have Docs and chefs need to have their stuff smuggled to safe "buff/spice houses".
Yeah this would mean no more buffing at starports but it would seem a bit more real. I mean dont you thing the imperial garrison at bestine would fine it curious that all these composite wearing T21 wielding folks are getting body enhansements in the starport near the Imperial Capital of Tatoonie?
After this is done replace the spice line with a comabat exp based line. Put some defence and some unarmed moves in that line. We have to have unarmed we should get something from it in the smuggler line.

I think that's been suggested, though probably not with the inclusion of being able to choose a contraband reward for the mission, I know I'd thought of this as well and planned to bring it up the next time we were graced by GM's presence on the forums.

My statement that nobody else would want to make spice comes more from the standpoint of just how weak and comparatively useless spice is next to food buffs never mind doc buffs.
Again given that spice is all the same regaurdless of who makes it, and with what its made.
it would be concevable that it could just be randomly created by the computer in crate lots each time a smuggler accepts a deliver mission.
So the smuggler finds NPC on say dantooine accepting the mission places a crate of muon gold in smuggler's inventory and a WP for delivery in the smuggler's data pad...once delivered to the second NPC the smuggler gets paid...(if this sounds familiar it should it's nothing more than a smuggler specific deliver mission) now anybody can converse with these NPCs but only smugglers would get the option to take the deliver mission and both smugglers and non-smugglers would get the option to buy spice from the dealer NPCs. This way we free up a full branch of our skill tree (what gets to take its place can be debated later) AND we can SMUGGLE!!!
Why have the computer create the spice? Because who wants to spend time and skill points making a marginal buff product, that no mater
how good you are, will always be just as marginal as the lowlyest of spice makers. This way not only do we get to smuggle but what/how we smuggle has impact on the galaxy giving more reason to do it other than blah blah credit grind.
Also this way supply of spice is related directly to the number of sucsessful smugglers there are. If the dealer NPC in Coronet keeps geting his deliveries jacked by IMP scans or opprotunistic smugglers then that NPCs price goes up forcing players to either pay the inflated price or go off world to get a lower price but running an increased risk of getting caught with contraband. Perhaps eventualy they can impliment a bounty system for smugglers who "fail" to deliver the shipment, either Player vs. Player bounties or NPC bounties. Wich brings me to another idea alltogether key NPCs need to be more involved in the game Fett could be called to track down notoriuos smugglers who "fail" to deliver. Darth Vader could be called up to hunt down notoriously brazen jedi. ect ect ect.
Lets hear your ideas.
Could we all accept a quick fix "smuggler specific deliver mission"?
Do we want to keep on making spice ourselves?
Are we content to sit back at satus quo waiting for the revamp?

Oh I get your point about spice being a weaker buff and all, but for some reason mine still sells very well. I use it in conjunction with food when I'm doing a loot run on the vette and I get killed before getting all of the loots. Anyways, like i posted earlier, I prefer the skimming from the top way much better than the new profession. And I like your idea for having NPCs sell spice. As far as Fett and Vader coming after folks, that would work great as long as they were undefeatable. I mean if somebody kills Vader, then what? LOL Poor Luke will never become a Jedi!!!!.........Well........now that I think about it...........that WOULD be one less Jedi for us to have to see running around with his glow stick. OK I Am For that idea!!! let's implement that and gang up on Vader!!

Only spice I craft is muon and pixie, and I make a nice little amount of money selling it. I don't LIKE doing it, but it pays the bills.
I'd love to see some form of Unarmed Combat stuff added in the stead of the Spice Tree.

Spice "crafting" is never going to leave our proffession, we just need to make it a bit more fun, and certainly more useful.
I'll still stick with my idea about spice, and that is make spice a spawning minable resource (mineral and flora..)that we can make refined spices out of, that are experimentable based on thier own set of stats, allowing us to have in-profession competition, and also making spices more in line with continuity.
It could also easily fit intoGreenmarines Smuggling mission ideas... Say you get a mission to ship spice from one location to another. On pickup, you notice this spice has far better stats than the stuff you've recently mined. So you skim a little off the shipment to make a little uberspice for your most valued customers.
Yeah. I know Im dreaming.

so you don't want spice out or you don't think the devs will remove it?
Personaly I'd rather see it gone from our skill set but I could live with this idea too.
