Thread: An idea to get Slicing back for the Smugglers

This would FORCE people to come to Master Smugglers for slices.
Weaponsmiths and Armorsmiths shouldn't have to rely on gettnig tons of cash from selling sliced items, and Smugglers should be getting the business.
Of course, you'll still have the occasional slicer who uses the exploit, but it will prevent these items from being sold en-masse on vendors.
I know I'll get backlash for this from those people who sell sliced items on vendors, but if they want to be mad at anybody for the inception of this idea - go yell at the exploiters of the powerup slice.
That's the thing. According to the Imperial Government slicing is illegal. So how is it you can sell sliced items on a public vendor terminal. That is one of the main problems with slicing right now, it's supposed to be illegal but there is no risk involved as everyone has sliced something or other. I got stopped by an Imperial patrol the other day and they said I was clean, yet all my pistols and my armor is sliced by myself.
IHMO I think there should be much greater risks and consequences involved with slicing and those in possesion of sliced goods. I also think that players should not be allowed to sell sliced goods on public vendor terminals, only private vendors. This would all make the slicing "industry" less common as well as those in possession of sliced goods. Hell even Imperial faction members can have sliced goods, and the really sad part is if you are an Imperial faction member you never get stopped to be searched (at least I have'nt).
Smugglers would become like walking weapon and armor vendors. We'd become high-quality arms dealers...almost likes smugglers
I know there can be major profit involved in doing bulk orders. But preferably I'd like to see the customer have to come to the smuggler personally if he wants his weapon/armor slice. Yes, it is an illegal activity. It shouldn't be on the mass market. It seems to me that the majority of the ws and as shops (ws mainly) are selling sliced goods. Here's an idea. Fines, randomly drop a huge fine on a ws stocking sliced goods. Just pick one at random per week or something. That'll make the merchant think before putting illegal goods on their vendor.
Remember the good old days when the Empire had a stranglehold on the galaxy? Man those were the days. Now the empire are bunch of wusses wearing uniforms.

I just got an idea that would tie this issue in with the BH missions on Smugglers. Bear with me, it's not fleshed out and I'm typing as I'm thinking.
I agree that having illegal items on vendors is a moronic side effect of this game. However, there is always one place all us smugglers have wanted to do business, right? That's it, the Cantina!!. If the devs could somehow enable smuggler goods ... smuggler tools (including knives, clamps, FANs, WUKs and AUKs) and spices... to be put on vendors in Cantinas and in Cantinas ONLY, then we have some content.
Now, they wouldn't appear on the normal pages. The Customer would have to click a button on the vendor screen indicating that they want to see the "more shady" aspect of the merchandise. Clicking this button would rack up a small amount of visibility for both the customer and the smuggler whose items are on the vendor. Buying these wares would gain even more "visibility" for both the smuggler and the customer.
The customers could have the option to turn in the smugglers, once they receive enough "visibility". This way, they don't need to be hunted down, but they could sick the empire onthe smuggler. If the customer has garnered enough "visibility" then they go to the nearest imperial recruiter, who recognizes how much "visibility" the customer has. the customer is then given a list of smugglers whose items he/she has bought. The Customer turns in one or more of them, depending on how much visibility they wish to lose.
The empire then places smugglers who've gained enough of these points onto the BH terminals. Also, customers who gain too much "visibility" and don't "cash it in" would also, given enough time, be put on the BH terminals.
Now, I'd love to see smugglers be able to slice these terminals in order to take themselves / other players off the terminals, just like others have suggested in the past.
This would give some much needed content to smugglers, the GCW, and cantinas, including placing a new emphasis on player cities and player cantinas, which live entertainers would love!
In fact, I think i'm gonna make a new thread about this, so that I can get ideas about it there as well.

Actually, this would encourage pup slicing as it will no longer be traceable. Right now, the only way to know if a weapon's been exploited is by looking at the weapon stats on vendors or walking up to somebody and asking them to perform a pup slice. Take away the vendors, and you've just removed 95% of the exploit visibility.
If this idea were to go through, the only way you'll be able to spot exploited weapons is by asking the person to do a pup slice, which is itself against the TOS. Even you went ahead and asked them to do it, and they pup sliced it, you could report them. The problem is that no one's ever been banned for it, so the risk of doing a pup slice is about nil.
Either way, pup slicing would go up, not down.
