Well. For the Smuggler per se - there ain't nothing there - EXCEPT Luck - which increases your slicing ability/ducking /hiding Just kidding!!! 
I'm also a Master Rifleman and got the Ranged Combat trees - however, and you may want to double check this, but I believe the Ranged combat skills are messed up and don't currently work. Melee for some reason does - but not ranged.

It would have been cool to help boost smuggler's slice skills with luck giving a higher slice rate on avaerageand more credits on term slices. /shrug

and and speaking of frack, I'm sorry but Im now in love with Starbuck! (the new BSG chicknot the 70's dude) I've always had a weak spot for tuff chicks and after tonights BSG marathon it's offical Starbuck has stolen my heart from Six (sexbot on tripping the rift).

Just gearing up to watch the last 2 episodes of the BSG season now - Cool thing is that show is filmed in Vancouver and it's weird as hell to see my downtown serving as the bombed out Caprica!!

And why wasn't I alerted to the Battlestar Galactica marathon!? The last episode I got a chance to see because of classes was Starbuck ejecting at the end on the alien planet. Anywho, I'm officially using the word "Frack" because it sound so cool and still conveys my emphasis.
And Googled your name and found your "hidden" Dirk Benedict FTP site. "...not the 70's dude" my webbed toes! 
Frack is also my new official cuse word for the forums and since you missed it I wont give it away but the way Starbuck gets off the planet is very, very cool.

Yep- the ranged speed tree is broken and does nothing. I have a master pistoleer/master smuggler with all 4 boxes of the ranged speed line and fire no faster than before I got them.
If they fixed the skills, that would make a huge difference to ranged combat- I was playing around with a speed calculator online and it would double the DPSmaster pistols/master smuggler could doif they fixed it.With that sort of increase in damage, you would be able to tell if it was fixed fairly quickly.
Any non-speed capped ranged figher would see a similar increase in damage.
As I understand it, right now the melee speed line works for both melee and ranged combat, but I don't have any boxes in melee speed so I can't verify this from experiance.
