Has this item been proposed to the devs in words other than "everyone can smuggle"

Yuo have to be at lease a niovice scout to use the harvesting module in a droid.

You have to be at a certain level of merchant to use the barker module in a droid.

You have to be a doctor to use the medicalmodule.

ETC.

If allof the above is true then:

WHY CAN ANY PROF USE THE STORAGE MODULE ON A DRIOND INSTEAD OF LIMITING ITS USE TO A SMUGGLER?

No, I think we told the developers to give them all smuggling abilities, but remove it from us so we have a challenge.

Umm, who has the ability to smuggle stuff?

Everyone has the ability to carry things. I don't think anyone has ever asked that only Smugglers be able to travel with spice or sliced items, but that there be a legitimate penalty for doing so and a definite bonus for using a Smuggler to do it.

The things discussed go much deeper than the question you ask. Read some of the development threads that are linked in one of the stickies at the top of the page. There are some very profound and well thought out proposals.

**** I wrote my reply while you were editing yours. The whole droid storage compartment and it's ability to avoid scans was not exactly intended. To be honest, the crackdown went through a lot of changes as it was put in, and the compartment being away to hide items was not exactly a desired effect from what I gather.

I also don't think that by simply giving us a cert for a droid storage compartment would really be giving us the ability to smuggle. Not to mention it would take a lot of business and dynamics away from DEs and a lot of players whom already use these droids for storage would not be too happy.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

By placing illiagal items in a droid, any player can smuggle goods past Imperail scans, Ithink that is what the original post was trying to say. In other words has anyone asked the Dev's why non-smugglers can avoid having their droids (or data pad)scanned.

If you pay the imps 3 times, they will never find anything. I wear a full suit of sliced armor carry a sliced gun and have some other sliced weaps in my bag. They never find anything anymore after I had to pay3 times (I am imp). They search me sporadically, but always say move along citizen

I'm wondering if that simple hide items in the droid concept came off of Return of the Jedi, with Luke hiding his lightsaber in Artoo. He was no smuggler, infact,he smuggled pastmembers of that trade, their logic may have been that anyone should be able to. Its stupid logic, but the devs have stupid logic alot too.

I guess I don't understand how a storage module on a droid is smuggling. As far as I can tell NOBODY can smuggle.

Your really think that if only smugglers could use droid storage compartments THAT would be smuggling content?

Hell, I've even found ways to *avoid* the fines. Yes, I know that they fine me, but I've found out how to "put it on my tab", so to speak. I'm not going to say how, because its an exploit, and I've already bugged it long ago. But here's what happens:

I run around with contraband.
I get scanned.
I get caught and fined.
At one point I do *something*, but I won't say when and what. Suffice it to say, it doesn't get taken from my cash on hand, or my bank.
If I get scanned and caught again, the current fine shows up with the past fine added in.
Again, I simply do *something* at some point to avoid paying what I owe.

Wes, if you feel you wanna know about this, ask, and I'll send the method to you in a PM.

Place an illegal item in a container that can avoid detection from people trying to fine said item= Smuggling, really not a tuff thing to wrap one's brain around

Perhaps it should be added into the code that contraband must be in top level inventory on a person(i.e. does not go into droids, can't be put in the backpack), but can still be dropped in a house like other things.

Or possibly that, but give Smugglers the ability to move such items into droids, backpacks, et cetera.

Or make the scans also scan bags and droids storage space. I think that the scans not scanning bags and droids is an oversight, one that many were quick to take advantage of, of course. (Mm what about us installing smuggling compartiments on droids? Kidding, I know, I know, we are Smugglers, not DEs )

That way we don't remove any storage from other players, we don't remove any market from the DEs, and we stay thoses with the highest chance of avoiding a scan because of our skills.

No, it surely do NOT give us real smuggle content, but it would solve the problem raised by the original post author.

Lol....the other day someone asked why I'm a smuggler. Sadly I didn't have a hard answer other than for character.

LOL...I just remembered, it gets better: Yesterday a newer player wanted to duel me (unbuffed, unarmored unprepared).

She /duels me when I'm slicing some stuff for a friend and I'm thinking who is this and why are they doing this to me (I was scared being of small size and not having any smuggler combat skills)? So without doing /examine I turn around and /duel and shoot her head off with my T-21.

She has a pet that's trying to eat me while this is happening and needless to say I won the duel. Then I ask her why she did that. She says you are a master smuggler. I say and? She says you can kill me! I say no way! I can escape pretty damn good and a few other tricks and that's about it.

So she says but you won! You have a rifle! I respond, You're right! I'm a rifleman as well!

Moral of the story is she was mislead by the title and I have nothing to defend it.

ps...Thank God I have rifleman.

People grouped up and stuck together in the wilderness, and you ALWAYS took a Scout or a Ranger with you. We lived our own Star Wars saga.
