They are likely just referring to the fact they are a master smuggler and therefore have the increased slicing percentages over a smuggler who has Slicing IV. Some people dont know the difference due to the master smuggler box not actually containing any information about the bonuses it gives.

Actually from what I've seen in my long year in this game is people with only Slicing IV call out they are a "Master Slicer" to drum up business. Then they argue ignorantly that they slice the same as a Master SMUGGLER. Just those people who can't go the extra mile but still expect to get the same as somebody who did.

Before a lot of the cosmetic changes, having IV in a line was called Master in some cases, so I agree I think some people did that and I never had a problem with it. Do some people use it as a scam? Yeah, for sure. But I like to give people the benefit of the doubt rather than assume something and attempt to prove they're "shady" for saying that.
P.S. I wish they'd just put the Slice bonus in the darn box. It would save so much hassle!

I called myself a Master Slicer when I only had Slicing IV. The reason? Because shouting in town saying "Slicer w/ 100% success rate" doesn't tell people your skill level. A Novice Smuggler can slice and therefore is a "Slicer." When people asked me for slices I would let them know up front that a Master Smuggler could get up to 5-10% more than someone with Slicing IV. Usually people said that they didn't want to wait, but some people were glad for the info and went to hunt down a Master Smuggler.
The problem here is that the tag for the slicing line is Slicer. I think they should change it to something else so that way you won't see anymore "Master Slicers" in town spamming.
No, if you have slicing 4 you're a slicer, it's just that easy. It's a title. Calling yourself a Master Slicer only confuses people more, and while YOU might be willing to explain it to them correctly, most people won't. I think the practice is misleading, purposefully or not, but that's just me.
Really I don't understand why anyone who doesn't have the Slicer title is trying to slice armor and weapons anyway...unless they're not disclosing their skill level.
But then, I don't know why anyone would want someone who's not flying the Master Smuggler or Slicer tag to slice their stuff either.
