Had this item which would be really great. Give Smugglers the option to slice all ship parts. Allow them to have CONTROLLED slicing instead of the random slice which really makes people made when they get speed over damage. But give them full control over all options on the part. Allow them to actually FIX the part of an item you want fixed. Say if you have 20K mass on an engine cut it down to maybe 15K mass. This would also totally bring new business back to smugglers and make them even more busy then they use to be since everyone has a ship

If you like this idea /sign and lets make it happen. I think this would be an awsome idea for smuggler and breed new life into the profession. BTW I am not a smuggler by any means but this would rock

The problem here is that the ship parts are now considered "balanced" by the DEVs. Allowing them to be sliced would allow for naturally uber items to go off-the-scale in the mass vs. uberness equation.

I wish we could slice them, but I think in order for that to even be considered, the DEVs would have to decide that a re-balance of ship parts is needed -- and I just dont see that happening.

i say let us slice parts

and no ships will not be uber, the devs would make it so.... hell if we could lower the mass by 1/4 it would be nice but it wouldnt make anything uber, look at the lvl7-10 component mass!, if we were to slice them by 1/4 to 1/2 less massit would still be hard to fiteven two to threethe best oppenents on a ship. And if anyone pvp's there gonna want the best sheilds, im sure that what everyine is gonna look for.

dude the other night i shot down four imps on kessel in just two shots, mind you with sheilds. as players we get the best weapons but the npc's get the best sheilds, its a great deal of time to kill an npc, its unbeleavible considering the mass from whish a tei fighter has yet it takes about 15-20 hits with a 1344-2788 blaster cannon to take it down!

Even in the movie Ties wih sheilds were a bit of trouble, people with no sheilds it would take 2-4 direct hits. a glancing hit shouldnt be he devasting to sheilds, to armor yes, they work differently.

consider the weight of all the level 7-10 equipment again and try to tell me it would make all the ships uber. they are ALL uber when you consider that you can take a pvp master down with just 2-4 hits with the best sheilds and armor.

I'm against it. SOE's implementation of 'Slicing' is the most out of character thing I see in the Smuggler profession regarding the SW Universe. Slicing had nothing to do with improving equipment performance. It was about bypassing security, creating false identifications and generally helping to get people/items/data to places there were not supposed to be.

Slicing as implemented, like buffs, draws too close to unbalancing the game. But while slicing equipment performance is already established in the ground game, it's not in JTL. And I'd rather SOE come up with something more in character for a smuggler in JTL than add something with wide scale potentially unbalancing effects into JTL.

Whats wrong with shooting down fighters in 2 shots in kesel? Isnt that as real as it gets. When tie fighters were hit by xwings they blew up in 1-2 shots.. They didnt take that much heat. When Xwings with shields took hits a few hits they were dead... I kinda like it this way with 2 shot kills. Its REAL.. No more of this 15 min battle and your hand falls off from moving the mouse.

Two things here:

1) Reverse Engineering -- Looted parts can be Revesered Engineered, why can't Player created parts (which generally are of lower quality to looted) be set to an RE state? Some of the components will be improved by "Mod kits" other parts maybe reduced due to the slice. However, when the separate parts are recombined you will get a better components similar to looted REed components.

2) Combat Balanced -- This is my concern for the Combat Upgrade. Three of our curent lines will be affected by the "Upgrade" leaving us with a minor revamp in the works. Since; these lines will be balanced ,like the ship components you mention. Therefore, we will be part of the pre-GCW revamping of ALL of the professions, which will be minor tweaking to bring us into line with the other profs.

This was suggested in Beta and flatly ignored. I think they are pushing all the Smuggler stuff for the Smuggler revamp.

Slicing is more like computer hacking than modifying weapons and stuff, however Han and Chewie tweeked teh Falcon and even Han's DL-44 far beyond specification, and there was only room in teh slicing tree to put this.

Smuggler should be able to slice, but as with everything it probably should lower the durability of the item you sliced, and it should be random just for balance sake. Reducing the durability of the ship parts will show how while it performs better it is mroe prone to break down .

of course in ANH tie's could be taken down in 2-3 three shot, bery little armor.

But however dont ever say x-wings are the same. Look when luke's x-wing got shot twice from behind which it his engines it didnt outright kill him, in this game it did. though when darth vader shot him it only took r2... but you guys need to watch the movie as a whole...

Player sheilds are really underpowered.

beleave or not, alot of the times the movies are not great sources, you have to get into the books and comics and what not. read the comic called in the Empires service while they were fighting for the moon of brentaal 4. wedge x-wing took severel hits while dogfighting a remaining squint(tie Interceptor) and siad he was singed but stil in workable order.

and take a look at this, Author Micheal A. Stackpole in reference with one of the x-wing books said there was a tactic by which two x-wings if they are close enough to eachother can bind sheilds togather which would be strong enough to take 1-2 direct hits from a TURBOLASER.

Realistic my left cheek, alot of the dynamics in this game are great but weapons effectiveness on pvp is overpowered ,sheild effectiveness is underpowerd, and sheilds definatly doesnt do crap in pvp.

it would make since if sheild could take atleast 2-3 direct hits, and no, it wouldnt unbalance poodoo. why? first of all, how many shots can you make in 2-4 seconds, about 4-5. so... in essence sheilds would take about 2-3 direct hits, armor(even the best armor) takes 2-3 more hits, so about 4-8 shots at most when takes about 5-10 secs( a little note here, x-wings and tie int shoot four at a time every 1-2 seconds). i also like the fact people can miss becuase of the smaller profile, which helps a bit..

anyway, dont know people get off saying this would make the game uber, if sheilds could get sliced it would help balance it out. on hit kills are not balanced even a few tie fighter have been known to take a few hits with armor and till work.

Maby a way to make it work better is havesmugglers work alongside shipwrights to slice the items. (only allow reverse engineered items to besliced or something?)

Would be nice if it was controlled, but that won't be likely to happen.

but anyways
