Thread: Anyone else not really know where their money comes from?

I was lookin at my bank account last night, and it's been at a little over 3 mill for a long time. I get large amounts of credits from occasional auctions, but for some reason, my money never seems to go down. My best guess is that between space and ground hunting, the looted credits are somehow keeping me afloat.

Anyone else seem to have a self-sustaining bank account?

I'm not saying I don't jump up or down sharply, like when I decided a Berserker Rifle would make a swell decoration or when I loot something really great, hell my current auction of crappy sutff will bump me up a few mill. But in between my insane purchases, and my large chunks of cash auction sales, the numbers just don't seem to change, despite armor, ship parts, weapons, tips, etc.

3 mil must be the magic number...

Between 2 characters (since I often transfer funds from one account to the other), I generally hover around 2-5 mil on my main (Dreven), and try to keep 1-3 million on Tristyn.

Right now, I'm sitting right at 3 million between the 2, but am waiting to see if I can close a deal that would put another 3 mil in the bank.

Plus, I've got some other things going that should allow me to transfer another 2.5-3 mil from Bria to Starsider.

Maybe this will finally be my opportunity to bust through that 10 mil barrier that's eluded me for so long.

And just to answer the original question...

I'm not so much concerned with where it comes from...but where it goes.

You buy resources (even at 2cpu, that can run up in a hurry in 100k blocks) or equipment to keep vendors stocked, or some other expense (like the4 harvesters I just bought for myself), and all of a sudden your bank account can be 1 mil lighter. I bought copper the other day to make some new runs of clamps and dropped 800k in about 10 minutes (drive time to actually get to the vendors).

Most of my income has actually come from FP trading...despite the sporadic market for FP at the moment. And just when I think I'm going to have to start running missions again, somebody else will pop up with an FP order that will get me through another "dry" period.

That's bizarre. Before I added shipwright, I was at 3 million, too. And even weirder, I'd been fluctuating around 3M since last September--when I was usually the only smuggler in Bestine, most populated city on Starsider, and charging 3K (or later, when I got less greedy, 100cr/%) would have me a line 5-8 deep. Back when 3M was the kind of rich where you're bouncing around on your rear, twiddling your finger over your lips to make that bbb-bibbity-bib noise, and gold coins just sort of spill out of every orifice. Yet I somehow never built on that wealth.

That number must have eerie powers.

I've hovered around 3 million for a while, as well. That might be indictive of how much a generic Smuggler holds who doesn't slice hardly at all and didn't grind solo missions. I mean, if we all pretty well do the same things have done mostly the same things as far as large money exchanges...we should be around equal?

Sound right?

I tend to wildly fluctuate. Last week I was at -5 million credits and after a successful krayt hunt I was +5 million. Prally be around 15 mil by the weekend from some more sales. I tend to hover around 5-6 million.

I've had about 3 mil since around May and I just recently broke the 4 mil mark for the first time ever.

I remember hovering around 3-4 million credits for a long time... now I hover from 6 to 7 million.

My secret to make big bucks? Buy low, sell high. A surprising percentage of my credits came from selling a handfull of rare items... only a few of which I looted, the others I just bought from people who don't like money or something because they sure weren't asking for a lot of it. I build my fortune mostly through trades like that but I try to cover the costs of everything I actually need through missions and slicing. Trading has been very good to me and at the moment I have not only 6.5 million credits in the bank, but several items which can sell for several hundred thousand to a million credits that I'm looking to unload as well as quite a few more that are currently decorating my yacht and could be sold if I ever absolutely needed the credits.

I tend to hover within $50-60 mil of the same number. I can't seem to become abillionaire...every time I get comfortably in the 9-figure bank accounts, I go on a huge spending spree.
