Smugglers!
I have herein a post which describes how Smugglers can Smuggle in an integrated Space & Ground game as part of a GCW revamp.
Please, please, please look it over and post replies here: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=GCW&message.id=378208
Basically it's a system devised where you, the Smuggler, are required for factionally-aligned players to run enemy blockades in space! You finally get something to smuggle, and it involves GCW heavily. If things go bad, it may go to Space or ground PvE or even PvP. Please read and respond at the link above!

I took the liberty to clickify it...

Not bad, a couple of holes, like does the smugglers faction matter (I.E. is his faction masked from scans)

Oh yeah, his faction would be masked too of course... which leads me to an edit...

Disclaimer: This is just my interpretation. All opinions are soely mine and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of my fellow Smugglers. Wait, W.T.F am I saying, hell they do!

Well I didn't use all-caps, or anything like 'OMG' but I do think that proposing ideas is harmless, if not maybe a little bit constructive, or with at least the potential to be. Anyway, it's just an idea, I've been around since the original release of SWG and never really quit playing completely, though I took a break at one point. I know that the game's development is driven by profits, just like you'd expect out of a corporation like SOE of course, and not necessarily pleasing the "die-hards" like ourselves but merely looking to expand the customer base as quickly as they can. MMOs have a five-year development span they say, I imagine that that's the game they're playing and we'll continue to see them trying to grab customers like this for a couple more years. Then maybe we'll see a SWG II, or the MMO market will have become so glutted the project will be scrapped altogether.

Good intentions but terrible outcome
There are some people, that wouldn't like to be forced to play shoot-em-up game which mostly space flight simulations is a themoment.
I believe that in general they should further... divide space from ground, i.e.
-make a shipwright separate profession that would not use basic 250 pts pool;
- add more professions relatedto space such as space miner, transport specialist, assault specialist, capital ships commander etc. and make separate skill points pool that would allow to fully master max. 2 of them;
- add space station where pilots could get out of the ship, go to cantina, buy/sell/resupply ship and needed components, maybe even rent a room(?), get a space quest;
- give pilots ability to actualy 'loot' the transporters that they are inspecting and prove to be loaded with cargo;
- give pilots with assault spec. ability to flyshipsfrom which boarding of capital ships/big transporters etc. would be possible - let them have a small 20 min mission where a strike team would have to take over key points of the ship to gain control over it (could be both NPC ships and in PvP areas also POB capital ships);
etc.
...chanhes should go in this sort of directon, not integration :/
and as to smugglers:
-just add taxes/duties for interplanetary transportation of goods, if you don't want to pay the tax/duty in the starport for this crate of droid brains, resources etc. you need to smuggle it in/out of the area;
- add the long list of high end weaponry, rare resources, data (prototypes, schematics) that are forbidden in the certain area (like authorities of theplanet where the war rages on wouldn't like to have a free ciruation of heavy weaponry, grenades, rifles, sniper rifles, bio enhancers etc. as it could end up in other side hands);
- have all people entering/leaving starports be auto-scanned for contrabanda - if duty officer finds illegal goods you can either let it be taken from you/tax or duty paid with extra penalty fee or fight in this case - no matter what profession - you end up in BH terminal, simple;
- smugglers would have option to land in such places as i.e. Jabba's Palace (naturally if they did not angered Jabba), Black Sun's field bases etc. where they would not be scanned yet in order to land there they'd have to first gain access to them (more less like it is now with SA neutral pilots and JP) - the wider is your list of contacts the easieris to smuggle for you;
- ofcourse items that are banned on current planet/or arewithout proper documents, statingthatalltaxes were paid would be illegal, in order to legalize them you either have to pay the tax/bribe local officer to get authorisation to use banned weaponor... forge documents - yet again another chance for smugglers to use their 'underworld' contacts and smuggle items, this time on the ground to places were they can be 'legalised'.
- smugglers should have a chance to avoid controls/scans on the ground/in spacedepending of their experience and equipment: detector jammers, hidden compartments etc. others well they should auto fail... unless it's a Jedi that knows mind trick (but how many of FS take it...);
- smugglers could be able to build and use scanners that would have a chance to reveal if someone carries something illegal + they could use cameras (already in game) 'take a photo of someone wearing jedi robe or having lightsaber equiped - later on they could decide what to do sellobtained databack to the culprit or to authorities (culprit ends up in BH terminal)- truely a scoundrel ability, wouldn't it be?
oh and just two things for those angered by this post:
1) not all the planets would have limitation like mentioned above i.e. Lok - Nym's teritory not Empire nor Republic imposes taxes laws there;
2) only really high end items, end exceptional quality resources would be banned/taxed, not wooden staffs
