Thread: Slice in tradewindow

Its not fun at all when someone dont give back the iteam you asked them to slice. It would be a good idea to have some kind of open window where you can show the iteam and let them slice it but cant trade it. Or to be able to slice it in trade window.
Im sure this idea isnt new. But cant get the search function to work.
With all the issues of people running macro and canceling the trade window, I think a slicing window could be a bad idea.

I think you just need to listen to the man/woman slicing your weapon in the first place - and if yo uagree to the terms of the bargain - then be happy - otherwise- expect to find your weapon on their vendor or the bazaar.
I did that to some weenie last night. I clarified the process and price before he traded me the weapon - he agreed to the terms and gave me the weapon - he didnt like his 6% speed slice - and didnt wanna pay for it.
I put the weapon up on my vendor and sent him an email with the WP to it - the cost of the slice just doubled. And there was nothing he could do about it. Ultimately he paid it and got his weapon back - and I HOPE he goes around cursing my name.
Maybe he'll learn to not be such a dumbass.
This is why you should never trust your goods to just "some guy/gal on the street." Many Smugglers work hard to develop a reputation in game and to build a repeat customer base. If you plan on getting something sliced, ask around first. Find out who's got a good street rep and send them a very nice tell or email asking if they're available. Make sure you know how much they charge per slice and make double sure you have that money on you or in the bank. If you ask them for a slice and they provide it, you're going to get that weapon/armor back when they get paid.
They should keep it as is. It requires trust and a working relationship. Something that is firmly lacking.

...which brings up an interesting point as to why a slicing window wouldn't really work. What happens when the customer decides he doesn't like the slice and doesn't want to pay? The item is already sliced, if you hit cancel - then what? The item loses the slice? Then people would just keep cancelling out until they got the slice they like.
So you would have to create the slice window so that the customer pays first - then you run into the same trust issues we were trying to avoid in the first place.
I guess one solution would be to make a slicing window similar to the image design window. A picture of the item pops up, with sliders corresponding to damage, speed, critical hit, etc. Then the smuggler could adjust the sliders back and forth...the further up you move the slider, the higher the customization goes. You can adjust the sliders in any combination you want up to your set skill level. Once the customer is satisfied, he enters the payment into the window, and the smuggler hits "Commit".
You do not needa slicing window, people. If a smuggler doesn't give you your stuff back, report them and they will get banned.
CSR's can track the flow of goods and credits. As long as the person pays the smuggler, they have fulfilled their end of the bargain, and as long as the smuggler keeps the item, they are NOT fulfilling the agreement. The charge is fraud, and it is punishable by ban.
Again, you do not need a slicing window. Smugglers taking things is rare to begin with, and there is an appropriate way to handle it when it does occur: /report.
SECURE trade, which the ID window isn't, follows a LOT of rules in the background, and is always looking out for shady people trying to exploit it. That's why, macros, opening backpacks, unpacking crates, LAG, and other things cancel the trade.
Now, I trust everyone is familiar with the good ol' Slicing Bug? you know, the one where, if a slice is cancelled through some screwy means, like crossing a server boundary while slicing, or you go LD or whatever, you can't slice the weapon until the next server reset. Imagine combining that bug with a Secure Trade window...
pandemonium.

This "problem" no matter which side you're on of it, is a matter of player bad form and should rightly be fixed by CSR's, not by creating up some new interface, that will likely only have it's own problems. I think this is a matter of trading one set of problems for another. Furthermore, it's trading a problem that can easily be solved by a CSR to one that requires dev attention, which is hard to find as it is.

That would bekind of like sitting in your car while you had the enginerebuilt.
Or Living in your house while it was being remodeled (not an experience I ever wish to repeat)
A guy once refused to pay for the good (pre-CU 25-30%) damage slice I did on his FWG5. I still use that pistol to this day. Show me the money, or I'll show you just how well the slice went.
