Before you read this, it should be known that I managed to stare at a blank screen for quite some time before being able to write anything. My being made correspondent, as possibly it did for many of you
, came as a complete surprise. I’ve spent the last few minutes just taking it in. The reason for my being somewhat dumbfounded is undoubtedly all that Caylin and others in this community have done to help create design documents, profession appraisals etc. and the responsibility placed upon the guy with the blue name to get it all done and the profession’s potential realised. I and everyone that makes it to the smuggler revamp will be stepping on the shoulders of good people who provided great ideas (some of whom will hopefully be there with us), so a big thank you to them all, past and present.
Another thank you goes to Tiggs for giving me this opportunity; I promise to you all that I’ll do all that I can to meet your expectations. Caylin has always seemed the best possible Smuggler correspondent we could have wished and hoped for, so believe me when I say I have some very big boots to fill, and that I know it.
So, hello to those that don't know me
.If you're interested, here's a little about myself; I’ve been an avid follower of SWG ever sincereading about its development in a magazine some two years prior to the game going live. While Pistoleer was in fact my first profession, it’s been Smuggler that’s kept me in the game. Initially I decided to pick it up to help out my guild, but once I took it upI really got into the role of being a dirty yet lovable scoundrel; I'd finally found my place and role in SWG. Soon after I discovered this forum and was quickly smittenwith a whole bunch of ideasabout actually smuggling in game. Well, it’s been nearly a year since I mastered and here I am
In ‘real life’ I’m a 21 year old student, studying for a degree in BSc (hons) Computer and Video Games. For those special few that are interested (WayneInAustin especially
), I am in fact male and have no plans for a change of gender. If this changes at any point, I’ll be sure to let you know
.
Anyway, on to more important stuff; I consider Smuggler to be the most important iconic profession in the game. Despite this and the efforts of this community, the profession has not been realised in SWG. I hope that together we can see our vision of a Smuggler in the Star Wars universe realised in game. My role is to represent your voices as one, to let the Devs know what it is we as a profession and a community want from them and the game, to make sure that they know what our collective vision is.
I’ll admit, I don’t have nearly as much insight and inspiration regarding our profession as Caylin and others in this community. Thankfully however, I’m here to put your message across, not be the profession’s designer. You’ve all done a darn fine job of helping come up with great ideas and ramming the message home, so I’ve nothing to worry about there. No doubt there'll be more of that to come.
As people have already said, I need to get to work. I’m told there’s a lot of stuff that needs reading on the Correspondent forum, so I’m going to get right on that. Geevo’s already done this and I’d appreciate it if the other sandbox testers could send me a PM, preferably with their email in there somewhere. The combat revamp won’t get us smuggling ingame, or even come close to revamping our profession, but rest assured, it’ll bring new things for Smuggler as well; combat is a massive part of the game and affects every profession, we’re no exception.
Anyway, enough rambling from me. Time to start reading

Hey ya Wes!
The only issue I have is the same issue I had with San... Thinking that a smuggler has to have pistoleer in order to be effective, because Smuggler should be considered a combat class.
I decided on purpose to not follow the template of Smuggler/Pistoleer/TKA because combat is not a big focus to me in the game. I probably haven't fired my blaster in months, yet I'm still doing (almost) everything that a Smuggler can do in the game. I believe Smuggler is a hybrid, with some combat, some crafting, and some GCW interaction.
I would just ask that you concentrate on the Smuggler profession on its own, and let interactions with other professions be a secondary issue.

/agree, while I love being a pistol jockey I think that smuggler should not be tied down to one class of weapons.

Don't worry, when GreenMarine talked about having Smuggler specials that worked for any ranged profession, I was both impressed and excited. It's true that I'm a pistoleer, but I do realise that Smugglers in combat are not an extension of pistoleer, but rather, a combat profession should be an extension of aSmuggler'scombatstyle.
I know one of the things I got from Caylin's and others posts when they got back from the summit was that everyone in combat will have their own specific role. Smugglers will have their own role aswell.

Welcome Wes....
So, when is TH gonna post the reason for the spice downer recovery change?
j/k
(sorta)
But seriously, welcome, good luck, and take your time getting up to speed and making friends on the "inside". More important then most of the specific issues floating around here that's what we need.
