Thread: Slicing is going above the caps.

That's what I'm hearing is the case on TC with limited testing. I can't be sure it's intentional yet, but given how important this is, I thought it'd be good to spread the word.

My concern here is this:

When the CU hit those people who had Uber weapons were told their weapons would still be great post CU (Up to twenty percent better than post CU items). As everyone knows there are a few weapons about that fall into this category.

The problem with this new slicing system is that, assuming the exceeding of caps is not a bug, there is the possiblility that the converted weapons (Most of which are already sliced) will lose their special status.

If it is not a bug then the solution is simple - make pre publish 19 sliced weapons sliceable again to enable the ratios to be maintained.

Is this possible?

We were going to keep this quiet in case it was a bug and the devs fix it, so as not to excite too many of our fellow smugglers!

(I'm hoping it is intentional, but given it wasn't listed in patch notes we can't be sure)

We would have announced when it went live if it hadn't been fixed (or if clearance was given to confirm it was intentional).

That might bealittle bit too late but maybe not because the Dev's don't read the forums anyways

If it's a bug, it's a bug.. but I thought they deserved to know.

Sorry - let me make clear - the details of the testingwere filed in a /bug and sent to the SOE QA liason on TC and two correspondents who have TC toons I know names of were notified (including Wes, sorry Tomo - not sure on your TC-Prime toon name), we notified the devs as best we could.

I think smugglers do deserve to know, but if this is a bug and the devs fix it on Mon before it goes live people may feel they were nerfed, and given the changes I just wanted the news on Tues (or whenever this actually hits live) to be as positive as possible and not "yeah, it went over caps on TC, but they nerfed us on live".

As I said - if this was going to go live I and I suspect the others who knew would have been telling everyone that slicing beats caps now as it is great news (imho).

Not too hard to test and verify this is how it's working right now.. I mean, it's on public servers, anyone has access to try it out. That's what TC's there for. I do understand not wanting to get peoples' hopes up prematurely, but if it's a bug, they can let us know it's a bug--and, I hope, explain why it's intended to work that way rather than the way it's currently working.

I have faith in both the devs and this community, though. I trust them to do right by each other in a situation like this.

Yeh,Red-Dwarf/Senjam was talking about this last night, he managed to slice past the cap and then later (I'd bailed and gone to sleep by this time ) for both speed and damage.. guess we'll just have to wait and see whether it's intentional or not

I was happy to find that I could infact slice bio-linked armour.... if this continues, I might start singing ...now all we need is an increased drop rate and the smell of Smuggler missions/quests on the wind.

Excellent news!

I don't think this is a bug. Right now, in live, slicing IS restricted by the cap. Assuming they're still likely using the same piece of code to apply the increases, it would stand to reason that this check would still be in there unless they purposely circumvented it.

Imagine the mess we would have if slicing did NOT take weapons over their caps - you'd have a lot of these rare components wasted, a lot of customization points put into a slice that does nothing, and a lot of pissed off customers. IF they prevented slicing from taking items over their caps, then they had better do the check BEFORE the slice is applied, and prevent it from being done. In my opinion, that's similar to the broken system we have right now - a slice applied that does nothing.

Great news, thanks for putting our minds at ease a bit.

I agree. With increased slice percentages, you will either see slicing above caps - or a massive diversity removal process as every weapon is sliced TO it's cap, making them all the same and boring.
