Thread: Crafted engines and capacitors given a boost, info inside, please provide your input
Shipwrights unable to compete witheven levelloot
- The number one dislike about shipwright iseven levellooted components can be drastically better than crafted. In cases such as capacitors (recharge rate) and engines (YPR), a very large portion of loot is better than crafted with no reverse engineering required.
- Suggestion 1: Increase base stat result onodd level(crafted/looted) engines (ypr) and capacitors (recharge rate). This would allow the current experimentation points to have more of effect and allow only the best of the best loot to beat crafted components as is the case with starship weapons, armor, and many others. It would also add value to theodd level loot andprovidemore reverse engineering opportunities for shipwrights.Currently a great deal of the odd level loot is sold to thenpc orshipwrightsto be reversed then destroyed.
- Suggestion 2: Add subcomponents to lootable items. It makes sense that portions of some looted components might be destroyed in the fight and only a subcomponent would be intact. (ypr overdriver for example). This looted item could be used by shipwrights to craft engines with ypr that can compete with engines looted whole.
- Note: A good long look at the balance between all craftable shipwright items and their looted counterparts is in order, but engines, capacitors, and boostersseem to be thethree most often mentioned.

Just an FYI for Shipwrights. Crafted Engines and Capacitors should be getting stat increases across the board in the next live update. This should make it so that crafted versions of these ship components can be crafted at a higher quality than looted components.

Looks like they may have picked Suggestion 1: [[ Increase base stat result onodd level(crafted/looted) engines (ypr) and capacitors (recharge rate).]] and altered the fix to be player crafted engines and capacitors can be crafted better than loot. This reporter will certainly be looking to see if RE'd components can still beat crafted. Seems fair, but loot that has not been re'd should rarely,if ever, occur.
With the new POB components, it looks like they also saw the need for more powerfull crafted items. The size and mass of those POB ships seems to scream for more power than your typical single or two seater.
That's it for today folks! Have a spacey day!
UPDATE 5/9/2005
I'm happy to share the following from the patch notes for 5/10/2005
Profession: Shipwright
- Made across the board stat increases for Max Energy and Recharge Rate on crafted capacitors.
- Made across the board stat increases for Max Speed on crafted engines.
NOTE: Though it is not in the patch notes, today Darth_Platypus said YPR would be given a boost as well. You can read this in the thread below, but it was after the patch notes had been posted.
Also of note for those who are interested is this little addition :
Character Respec
- Made non-combat professions eligible for character respec.
UDPATE!!!!
5/11/05 patch update
Profession: Shipwright
Increased the yaw/pitch/roll experimentation ranges for all levels of crafted engines.
Please post your post-patch results here!

Thanks for the steady flow of information. It is appreciated and very refreshing!!![]()

Nice work!!
"He is out last hope..."
"No there is another..."
[just love that line... when we where kids my buddy was along with my family at the movie... after that line he turned to me and said "Leia is Lukes sister..." I punched him, "You sick bast*rd"]

I hope they can apply this to weapons, boosters, and reactors. Shields could use a little boost too.
A little detail on this pass: I got a chance to go through the
crafted engine and capacitor schematics, and I compared the stat ranges
on these to the comparable level looted components. I tried in
every instance to make the high end crafted range able to surpass the
looted equivalents. This ended up being in various places a
15%-25% boost on important stats like Max Speed, Max Capacitor Energy,
and Recharge Rate. The elite capacitor and engine were included
in this pass too to separate them further from the newly powered up
Mark V components.
Reverse engineering is a bit of a wildcard when balancing this stuff,
so there's a chance they will need a little more boosting, but I think
that I've found a good set of numbers to start with.
To answer a question asked in this thread, this change will not be
retroactively applied to existing items, but will apply to all newly
crafted engines and capacitors after this change goes live.
I look forward to your feedback on this.

Dp,
I think the number one thing people are going to ask you in regard to engines is will YPR get a boost? We can do very well on speed, thanks to earlier adjustments, but YPR is where crafted engines seem to need the most help.
