So what is the best optional component to add? Possibly the quick shot one?

It depends on type of weapon and what you want it to do.

For ion cannons and disruptors armor and shield effectiveness would be good choice for blasters either of those would not be.

Quick shot is nice but but also increases the capacitor energy used.

Problem with all subcomponents for every good effect there is a negative;

Armor effectiveness: Increases the weapons armor effectiveness, but lowers the shield effectiveness.
Shield effectiveness: Increases the shield effectiveness, but decreases the armor effectiveness.
Max damage intensifier: Increases the max damage, and decreases the min damage.
Min damage intensifier: Increases the min damage, but decreases the max damage
Quick shot upgrade: Increases the firing rate, but also increases the capacitor energy used.
Speed limiter: Decreases the firing rate, but also decreases the capacitor energy used.

So it does depend, if your putting 3 blasters on a ship the speed limiter might be the better choice because of the amount of capacitor energy used by 3 weapons.

For the mining laser you are referring, whatever part you use, there is very little percentage increase from experimentation points when compared to normal weapons. I typically make then with a quicker refire rate or max damage. But usually it is at the request of the customer. Need to make one with subcomponent and w/o and see how much of a difference there is.

For mining lazers do a Max or Min upgrade For Shure.


The Extraction rate is based on the Damage the weapon does, this means that refire is almost useless when it comes to minning (exept for defence)



Also, by not increasing the Energy per shot you alow for the weapon to be fired 100% of the time while still macroing Shield Shunt every minut or so, alowing a macro miner to live longer AFK

I go with max damage since i don't use it for protection, just blowing up the asteriod only. So, i rather have more punch per shot than have more shots per asteroid. I don't need to save time when mining, its all a matter of number of shots for me which save me more time. but thats just me.


Pretty much comes down to what you want it to do for you. speed boost would be good if its part of your defense system, but damage is great for just asteroid busting.

More good info. Definately Asteroid busting. Maybe I'll make 2 and compare them.

If you're using a tractor beam it doesn't matter what the damage rating of the mining laser is. That's why I prefer speed enhancer. Of course, I'm Imp and we don't have any 3 gun fighters, so I depend on the minig laser for defense as well as mining.
