Thread: Player Space Stations

Was playing JTL, as you do - yapping to guildies, as you do - and we all got onto the subject of X-wing Alliance (oh yea, I still play it ).


Anyways, we came up with a basic schema for player owned space stations (similar to the one you live on in X-wing Alliance). The problem as always is space, but we kind of thought that if a player was to own a space station, they would recieve hyperspace co-ordinates that only they know (unless they tell others) which takes you to a 10k by 10k (or whatever) sector of undisclosed space where the station can be placed. This would also enable player associations to place larger stations accompanied by smaller stations to have guilds in space


The space stations would be variable in size as house are currently, but will be modifiable along the same lines as player space craft are - so they can equip things like cargo pods (increase internal item space), ship repair mandibles (self explanatory), enchanced scanning (so they can see the whole system and whats in it from the station), and other such attachments. I also think they should have docking tubes, so when a player docks their ship is actually visible outside the window and limits the number of people who can dock.


Space sectors should also be decorated according to choice, for example, when the player places a station they can choose a background like Kessel, or have an asteroid belt in there somewhereetc.


Other potentials of space stations are still up for discovery, but I would like things like starship crafting bonuses - or maybe mounted weapons with a droid controller for automatic firing for when those pesky pirates decide to take a shining to your station. The combat aspect can be decided upon byt the player by enabling signal masking (no combat) or active transmissions (where random spawns will appear if the player is in-system). These options are basically a control measure for fun, but add the necessary role-play attachment.


DIfferent styles of space station can range from small, multi-room stations for individual players, or massive, open-hanger stations for player association meeting places etc. And then you get stations that are suitable for certain types of operations, like a mining guild may want a station that can dock with many Y-8s and transfer their cargo externally.


If I get flamed so be it - I'm fire proof up to and including 500C (depending on what I'm wearing), but this is the first time I have posted one of my game ideas. Space is under utilised at the moment and I'm sure those of you who play JTL more than you ground-pound will agree. It is also safe to say my idea won't get anywhere, and it is a pure fun attachment for those JTLers - but still doesn't hurt to share ideas


Feel free to post your thoughts, I really would love to see at least some of players' ideas realised.

I am really thinking a space staion would be cool. Would love to see something like this except maybe more along the lines of a player city. Dunno I like haveing the stations out of the main space area. I mean we have all been around cnet or theed and seen the house pack.

As much as I would love a space secor for each PA I don't think they will ever get that much processor power.... I hate lack of money and processor power.

Any ways how about adding an interior to the stations that are already in game. We now have 2 neutral stations in all the space systems but Deep Space and Kessel. Maybe even add a station in Kessel for this. I know there are Imp stations in all systems besides DS and Kes also and I believe it is the same for the Rebels.
The interior would have a launch bay, shipwright trainer, chasis dealer, shuttle port and a quest giver for a PA to do.

Diffrent quests for each station, The quest would need to include space and ground and be diffuclt for a PA to do. No group of eight people being able to complete the quest in a few days. I would think it taking about 20 people working togther for the ground part(s) and a full 2 groups working togther for the space part(s). The reward for the quest would be and an area on the station.

IMP PAs can only get space on Imp stations and Rebels only on Rebel stations. Neutral satations for Neutral PAs of course.

The "entrance" to the PA area on a station would be via turbo lift. This would allow an unlimtied number or PAs to be on the same station and not fighting for space avalible.
