POB ships, like the Y-8 can already hold large cargo bays. Why not create a modification of these, and turn them into hangar bays. A Hangar bay would have a large mass, like 1-2 million. It can then hold ships adding up to that mass. For example, a ship with 1.8 mil mass would be able to hold 20 ships with 90k mass (or perhaps maybe up to half the hangar bay's mass, so as not to over do it. A ship could then be docked with using the existing dock command, and the starfighter would be placed in the hold, until you performed a command similar to using the escape pods. Landing on a POB ship would allow the ships' engineer to repair your ships' systems to maybe 75% condition.

mass would be difficult but they could do perhaps 1 ship. Y8 is pretty small and considering how small the bay was on the vette when Obi-Wan docked with it I could easily see volume as the issue. Mass is a fictitious number designed to gate the use of all level 10 components on small fighters.
