Hiya folks, just a quick question.
Can I re-engineer items that I have crafted?
If not, why not? It would sure allow shipwright to make some nice equipment, costly but nice.

no, and it never will be, they simply could be made too unbalance if it was allowed to RE crafted items.
It be no different than experimenting to 95+% in every single field if RE was allowed on a crafted item.

You can only reverse engineer looted components. By doing this, you are able to make the best components in the game if you choose your looted ones carefully. Check out the guide to reverse engineering by TomoRainer here

I understand the concern for items that are to powerful, but with most items crafted you can still max out experimentation on only one or two stats and they become the best in the game, where with engines or star ship weapons there's just to many things to modify. It might not bother me so much if in engines P/Y/R was linked or somthing, but as it is, it's just to easy for RE'd items to exceed crafted. Even if a person could RE their own items, looted REs would probably still exceed anything a shipwright could make.
And as an aside it would be benificial for higher end Shipwrights because instead of only being in demand for RE'd loot, they could actually create a higher end component market.
Just a few toughts I guess.

have you seen the new engines and capacitors going around? Mark III crafted cap with 40+ regen and 1000+ energy for only 6k mass. Mark V engines with 60+ ypr and i've seen 118.9 speed. do you have a looted engine that fast? the only RE'd items i personally use are weapons because dmg wise and vs. shields/armor they are still better but most of the time they fire too slow and with crafted guns i get out more dmg per second. and im a little confused by your arguements. you say that crafted items with maxed out experimentation are the best in the game, yet a bit lower down you say its too easy for RE'd items to exceed crafted.
bottom line is, crafted parts cannot be RE'd and tho it is wishful thinking, like it is stated beforehand in previous posts, would be much too debalancing. imagine a SW making a mark V engine with current stats and experimenting only speed. so lets just say you get a 118+ speed engine. than he makes another mark V engine this time he maxes out yaw. than pitch. than roll.hell why not energy maintenance while hes at it. the end result is a wicked uber engine that you can put in your mining ship that'll make it turn like an awing (well im exaggerating but you get the picture).

It's true I haven't seen everything (who has? :smileyhappy, and I do have to fool around more with the new engines and capacitors. So I guess I don't really realize how uber they could be.

Sorry you're right I wasn't very clear. I was refer to experimenting on personal weapons, personal armour, and ect., most of these (not all) items can all be made powerful buy experimenting on one or two lines, where as starship engines have five or six different fields which people feel are important.

sigh, yeahit is

couldnt you just make loads of level 1 components and RE them to get KSE disks if you could RE crafted items?
something extra to add why this wont be coming into the game
