I did read the faq and searched a bit, but can't find anything detailing how one applies textures to a ship. Is there a customization tool for this purpose? Been to several master sw shops and haven't seen one yet.

you just click on use on the texture kit, then it brings up a box asking which ship you want to apply it to, then select the ship hit ok and its all done

Texture kits and paint kits aren't always easy to find. For some reason, many Shipwrights don't regularly stock them. Atleast on Gorath, I usually have to special order them.

In my experience, this is because we have customers clamoring for us to tie up our factories making ammunition for launchers and CM. that doesn't leave much time for customization kits.

Most Shipwrights will make them for you if you ask nicely. They don't take a lot of time and very few resources - but remember to ask nicely or they may tell you to wait at the end of the queue

Is there anyway to choose which texture or colors you want or do you just get what the pack gives you? Do we need to go through multiple texture packs to find the one we like?

Paint packs work like vehicle paintpacks, you can select the primary and secondary colours from a list.
I'll try making a few texture packs tonight...

There is a link in the SR FAQ somewhere for all the textures I saw, that helped a lot. Any yes...it blows how the Ixiyen and other top-tier privateer craft only get marginal coloring....they dunelizard and the kimo paint so nicely..why can't those blacfk sun models??

Paint kits have two "sub charges": one for the primary color (which appears to be the pattern changed by the texture kit) and one for the secondary color. When picking the color from the pallete, if you have your "manage" window open (even if it's just the "read only" view when you're away from the starship terminal), you can see the color change as you highlight different pallete entries. This lets you preview the color before using up the charge.
Texture kits have 6 styles. Style 1 appears to be the "default" texture that you get when you first buy the chassis. As far as I've been able to find, there's no way to "preview" the texture without using up the kit. I konw a few people have been gathering screenshots of the various textures applied to different ships, but I can't find my links to them at this time.
One thing I did find out yesterday: the Black sun privateer ships (Kihraxz, Ixiyen, and Rihkxyrk)keep a mostly white chassis, and the default of the primary texture color is also white, so it doesn't show up at first. For those you might want to repaint first before checking the textures.
