Thread: How 'much' do optional parts change things?

An example, using numbers that have no bearing on actual numbers:

Saya reactorwould have 1000 power output, and 1000 mass (made up numbers for this example) - if you added an overdrive to it (+power, +mass), how much would it affect each number? 5%? 15%? 50%?

That same with damage enhancers and armor upgrades - is there a 'standard' to expect the optional parts to help?

I only started playing with upgrades, but let me share with you what I have done so far. What's funny is the things you're asking about are exactly the things I have played with so far

First, I have to say that the effect of the upgrade will scale with certification level of the component. This much I know for a fact.

I made a Mark IV reactor with a Mark IV overdriver, and it added about 2000 to the output at the cost of 3000 to the mass.

I made a Mark IV max damage intensifier for an advanced blaster, and it added about 260 to the max damage, but cost about 160 to the min damage.

Personally, I don't have a good feel yet as to whether upgrades are worth it. Many of my customers balk at the trade-off. There are few that don't care, but they are in the minority. However, many won't pay extra for a trade-off (and you do have to charge extra--for the additional resources, the fact that all upgrades required these new named resources, and the additional crafting time).

How much of a change is this? I'm still making Z's and Y's. Is this a 5% jump? a 150% jump?

The optional enhancements are definately worth it if you plan on comparing to looted parts. They can make the difference on whether you use that looted item or not.

The amount they adjust depends on which component you are making and which enhancement you are using. Some may have multiple ones that give the same benefit but have different drawbacks. You may use different ones for different people.

A person starting out with a Z-95 is gonna have mass as their restricting spec on their ships. But once they graduate to a Y-wing, it will most likely be the reactor output that limits them. Even if it's the same level component, you may have to use a different enhancement.

As far as actual percentages, this depends on the resources you use and what you experiment on.

For a Mark iV reactor you are probably talking about 14K output without and 16K with. It's enough to add another weapon or component on.
