I have not been a crafter, cept for some meds, and recently thought of going into business as a SW/DE. I am wondering if this is pretty profitable and also how time consuming. Just a little backround. I will be grinding a jedi and doing BH stuff, but other than that willhave time to do SW/DE. Also the crafter character will be used by myself and a RL/IG friend.

If you don't want your mastertitle very soon it can be profitable. Just set up harvesters to get the resources and grind your jedi. When you think its time for crafting you can build some chassis if you like to get over with it, or fiddle a bit around with how you can experiment and what upgrade does what (as it can be very confusing when you hit master and see the loooong list of things to craft).

If you don't like waiting for your harvesters to first get those resources you will have to invest a lot of credits to buy grind resources. Shipwright needs a lot of resources!

If you like crafting components (like me) it will take a lot of time, as you can only do factoryruns on upgrades and usables like missles. Every Gun, Armor, Engine etc. needs to be crafted by Hand!

Crafted components last a long time, Pilots only buy new components when they get a better cert, or outfitting a different ship. Armors decay much faster and need to be replaced often.

Good thing is to ask your customers about their flyingstyle and were they think the ship could need a boost.

If the pilot is complaining about everything needing too much energy you might try to sell him a 18k reactor with a lot of mass, or ask if he uses reactor overload, if not sell him a reactor with very little mass and not really enough energy and include a reactoroverload3 or 4 chip. Now he hass some more mass and might thinking about a bigger shield, weapon or a faster Engine...

The best part for me is when you get a tell from space that it all worked and the ship is much better now

If you have your first few happy customers buissnes will start making profit. If you have good stuff the Pilots will get through their tiers faster, buying more parts from you.

If you like to fly you can also help your customers on missions to get them new certifications, tell them were to make the fastest money in space and soon you will be getting spammed by your vendor

Just a follow up to the previous answer.

If you're ina guild, or have a group of friends. Let them try out your equipment. Ask them nicely to try different set-ups to find popular ones, and popular kits.

I know in my guild, we have a good group of pilots, always willing to help out the 2 SW's we have, testing new guns/armour/reactors etc, and the different combinations.

What you soon find out is that everyone has a different flying style, and different needs. That's what makes SW so cool, getting to totally revamp someones ship when they get new cert levels.

I am in a very large guild (130ish I think) and in the biggest city on the server. That is the up side. The down side is that there are two SWs in the guild, so I guess you could say that I want to be a SW for myself, and of course to make some money, but mainly because I want to customize my own ships and the like. I am gonna get all the grinding materials saved up then start the SW character. I think it will work out pretty good. Thanks all.

Yes about 6 million units. It sounds like your post Newwb was pretty negative, but that might just be me reading it wrong. Why though would you think that I cant get those resources? I am well aware of how many it takes to do the grind, I am not worried about it. Thanks all that replied.
